We had the potential, but frankly so do many teams.

 

I usually think there are about ten schools that are above the field, but not THAT far above.  Then another group of 12-15 slightly behind that who can easily those in the top group, but aren't consistent enough to be included in the top.  Then after the top 20-25, there's a mass of at least 60-70 schools that are capable of getting hot and beating anybody for a couple of weeks, but probably couldn't do so on a night in, night out, basis for a month or more.

 

The tournament has blowouts, sure.  But it also shows, almost annually, there's not a cavernous gap between the top and everyone else.

9 conferences got multi bids this year.

I cannot find the source, but I read at the beginning of this tournament that that is the fewest count in history?

A worthy consideration for the "gap is growing" argument.

Wonder if Sam Houston fans are still "not impressed" now with UNT bball? They got walloped on both sides of the court....Could have won by 40 or more if didn't clear out the bench with 6 minutes left in the game.
