Spavital ran Texas State into the ground with his transfer only recruiting.

He's had some good seasons as an OC though. His last time at Cal was under Dykes, so I wonder how much that production had to do with him vs Dykes.

Same question from his time under Sumlin at A&M. Wilcox is a defensive guy, so the offense will be all Spavital. A lot of complaints from my Aggie friends were that his offenses were too horizontal. Way too many bubble screens, quick outs etc. I expect to see a lot of the same concepts we're gonna run

I think a lot of people felt like Spavital was doing what SMU had done to become so successful.  So I don't think we can be too critical of what he did.

The difference was he was ignoring HS players. I believe in one of his classes, he became the first coach not to sign an HS player.
