As the resident Syracuse fan on this forum, it's a sad end of an era. The man dedicated 57 years of his life to the university he loved so much and vaulted its profile to heights it wouldn't have achieved otherwise. Going to miss him.

Alternatively, it was the right time. Maybe a year earlier would've also been okay, but his teams just haven't had "it" in the last few seasons, so it's been frustrating.

Also, me thinks Mac isn't going to want to uproot his family for Syracuse and freeze his ass off.

It's kind of crazy how they pushed him out the door.  Not saying it wasn't time for him to go, but he obviously didn't want to leave....and given hw he built the program it's stunning they basically fired him.

I am very concerned about Cuse courting Mac.  Then again, this used to be a bigger job than it is now.

Don't be.  Proximity to DFW is a massive factor for Grant.  He'll want a place that's close to his dad/family.

grew up a Cuse' fan due to dad being from there. I still hate Keith Smart and the Hoosiers for the 87 Final.

I think the writing was on the wall, he has had a few bad seasons. Love him for the 47 yrs of service but was past time for him to step down.

I actually think this was his plan all along. If it wasn't the administration wouldn't have had his replacement in place so immediately. He was the kind of guy who never wanted the fanfare for himself, so something like a year-long retirement tour of a season wasn't his kind of move. A quiet retreat into retirement is exactly what he'd have planned right after Jimmy and Buddy graduated.

Well, Roy Williams just sorta retired a month or two after the season ended.  I thought that was a Boeheim move.  His press conference was quasi-bitter and cantankerous (even for him), so it didn't seem like he wanted out yet.

In fairness, he had just been knocked out of the ACC tourney. If he had his way, it would've been after at least losing in the ACC Championship, or in the dance.
