If for no other reason than to get off the smut thread...

I just heard on The Ticket a few minutes ago that the Big 12 is going to formally invite the four corner schools for admission in light of what was described as luke warm interest from the networks and a new TV contract.  Any school that might be considering joining that dying conference, is in for a rude awakening, IMHO. I wouldn't be surprised to see the MWC making a play for the leftovers.

Since it's not specifically mentioned, the Big12 is going to raid the PAC?

The four corner schools (Az St, Az, Utah and Colo) are what the Big12 wants.   Those schools will probably wait to see what the formal media offer is to PAC12 schools to be able to compare apples to apples before deciding on any other Conference offer.  They will not want to give up their GOR (grant of media rights) for 5 years like the PAC wants if it's a low-ball PAC offer.

Either the remaining PAC schools will raid the MWC, or they’ll join the AAC. MWC isn’t raiding anything.

Yes, PAC schools won't go to a G5 conference if they can just backfill with MWC schools and remain P5.  That's why this whole P5, G5 stuff needs re-addressed with all this change going on and upcoming.

Exactly. Just really depends on who’s left. If only WSU and OSU are left when the music stops, then I could easily see the conference dissolving and those two schools joining the AAC along with 4-6 of the MWC schools.

A staggered exit where Oregon, Washington, Stanford, and Cal don’t immediately exit for the Big Ten is probably the only real hope for a Pac12/MWC merger.

Would love more talk on P5/G5 nomenclature!

With all this fluidity, and the BCS era getting further and further behind us, it wouldn't surprise me to see new nicknames/descriptors being thrown.  Descriptors based on CFP contracts.

Nobody's signing that Grant Of Rights, and eight of the current ten PAC schools already have secured their plans to leave. They'll all be announcing their departures as soon as the GOR is declined.

When all's done, the Mountain West will likely provide a home to PAC orphans Oregon State and Washington State, as well as tagalongs SDSU and SMU.

Here's the Monty Show, a mouthpiece for Utah Utes fanatics.

Nah. Existing AAC schools get $7 million per school each year with the 2023 additions getting about $3.5 million per school. All MWC schools except Boise get about $4 million per year.

There’s zero incentive for any existing AAC schools to go to the MWC. If the PAC 12 really does become just OSU and WSU, they’ll absolutely make every effort to join the AAC. At minimum for football only with the rest of their sports in the WCC.

I just don't see it, even in the worst case scenario and you only have OSU/Wazzu, I still see the Pac12 name holding more value than the MWC. The big question is do they keep their bowl contracts, sponsorships, CFP payouts, NCAA credits, etc. The only way they would move to the MWC is if the conference dissolved, and if it somehow did I could see it as a toss up that they go independent in FB instead and put their olympic sports in the MWC or WCC.

Maybe I missed this, but what’s currently projected to happen with Stanford and Cal if the BIG10 and BIG12 get their way? Will they try to backfill the PAC12 or jump ship elsewhere?

Rumored that the Big Ten wants Oregon and Washington. Also Stanford and Cal, but the money has to make sense for those two.

Exactly.  No PAC P5 school is going to give up citizenship there to move down to a G5 conference (MWC or AAC) voluntarily.  They will just invite moveups from the MWC.  Boise, UNLV, AF, Colo St, et al would all love to be P5s instantly, just like Smut.   No test needed....  which is exactly what is wrong with instant moveups to P5, no credibility that they belong at that level!

People forget that the AAC wanted to pick up the Big12 leftovers if that conference broke apart, instead they get raided for their best teams because the Big12 name trumps the AAC one. Water flows down, and it's going to take a suspension of the laws of physics to change that, much like realignment.

True, but the Big XII also hadn’t lost their broadcasting deal/revenue stream. Where does the PAC? get their money and how do they hold on to their P5 status with no revenue coming in?

It all depends how this thing all shake out. The rumor is they have a deal for $22m, that's low for P5, but more than double what the AAC makes, so they will have some revenue coming in. The whole situation could stabilize or landslide at any minute because there's rumors flying everywhere right now.

As far as being seen as a P5, which is a label that was created not an official designation, that too depends on if they lose more teams or not. If they manage to keep the 10 together maybe they can hold on to that perception. They'd have to overcome less revenue, and less exposure while still excelling on the field. If they lose more teams they can pretty much kiss that perception goodbye.

After decades, The PAC died Friday, March 4, at 2:00PM

The average $22 million per school is going to keep 8 of the 10 teams from signing the GOR. Oregon and Washington were demanding a disproportionate share and there was no way the other current members would agree.

Washington, Oregon, Stanford, and California will be heading to the BIG 10.

Arizona, Arizona State, Utah, and Colorado will be heading to the Big 12.

On July 31, 2024 the PAC will officially cease to be a recognized NCAA conference. They will not have retained the "minimum 5 schools together for 3 years" to be eligible for auto qualifying for any NCAA championships. All PAC finances will be divided amongst the schools that originally earned them, including USC and UCLA.

I agree with your conclusion regarding the death of the PAC 12. However, I think Oregon State and Washington State will join the MWC instead of the AAC. It makes more sense[ not that has ever mattered in conference realignments] to hook up with a conference that already has 3 schools in California, 2 in Nevada, plus Boise .

Where did you see any insinuation that I said WSU and OSU would join the AAC? They, along with the PACs other 2 new tagalongs,  will have no other option than the MWC if they wish to stay together.

And hopefully SMU is too proud to come crawling back to the AAC.

The $22M deal reportedly also includes ESPN's control of who the PAC adds if new members are needed.  They have already said no to Smut (as value added), lol.
