But you can bet the kid's college fund one of those 5 will be against UNT!

ND is not joining a conference.  lol.

There’s more smoke now than ever. Especially with only conference champions getting byes in the expanded playoff.

Proof?    You can't because it hasn't been agreed to yet.  Why?  Because ESPN low-balled them and now they want other offers, like Amazon streaming.   Also, the deal depends on conference makeup.   The Pac needs more assets.  But Smut will never replace value lost by UCLA or a USC. The Pac12 is on life support and reaching out to Smut is proof of their desperation!

Enjoy Charlotte and FAU.  We'll send you a postcard from Seattle and Boulder!

Pretty sure our money is green just like theirs.  Politics notwithstanding.

They are too self centered to notice anyone else. See their game day attendance. Oh wait, they are all streaming in.

I know this isn’t specifically UNT related but seeing as SMU is our biggest “rival” this  is still big news. I don’t expect that our yearly matchup would be changed by them moving to a Power 5 conference but it’s something to keep an eye on. And if SMU leaves that means the AAC will need to replace them. Could another former C-USA opponent take their spot?🤔

With the CFP expansion there are no more “Power 5” conferences since specific conferences will no longer be assigned auto bids. What will matter now is the overall strength of the conference since the champions of the top 6 rated conferences will get the bids.

The PAC-12 has been relatively weak in football for a few years now and the MWC and AAC would have won several of the playoff bids over the past few seasons over the PAC-12 (based on RPI ratings) had the new playoff system been in place over the past few years. And this is with UCLA and USC. Lately even PAC basketball has been weak and will get significantly weaker losing two of their top programs in USC and UCLA. The main benefit of being in the PAC-12 for SMU would be having a closer associations with better brand name universities like Cal and Stanford (assuming they are not next to bolt). However, the Ivy League schools have that too but they are still a mid-major conference athletically.

Moving to the PAC will not likely be what SMU fans are expecting for their athletics even if the PAC does not lose any more programs.

PAC media deal is poised to be at a higher $/school than the deal the Big 12 just announced without UT/OU.

With an expanded playoff the PAC champion is assured a seat at the table for a national title.  Unless the TV money is just wildly off then no there is very little incentive to join the Big 12.

First good for you guys on the move if it happens, any other team would do the same.

2nd if your that deep into this you've seen the recent leaks and reports that the Pac12 is likely taking a pay cut. The ESPN/Fox deal was not happening, now they are contemplating going to Amazon and risk losing a lot if exposure. Several teams have also refused to sign a GOR, causing concern of more defections. You also know that you will have to give a 24 month notice to leave the AAC, and if you do join the Pac it will most likely be at a reduced rate just like everyone else not named OU/UT.

That's why it helps to have half a dozen billionaires willing to subsidize the difference in the reduced rate.

David Miller and Gerald Ford would stroke a check tonight to the AAC to get out ASAP.
