The fact that the Pac 12 commissioner is on their campus means it's a lock that they're gone.

Bowlsby was on our campus right before we announced our Big 12 invite.

I know this isn’t specifically UNT related but seeing as SMU is our biggest “rival” this  is still big news. I don’t expect that our yearly matchup would be changed by them moving to a Power 5 conference but it’s something to keep an eye on. And if SMU leaves that means the AAC will need to replace them. Could another former C-USA opponent take their spot?🤔

Worst kept secret in Dallas for the last six months but time kills deals.

When SMU announced the Ford Stadium expansion and $200m renovation that was all I needed to know that we were not long for the AAC.

Houston has been very successful for a few years. If you (PAC12)are going to take a school who cannot attract fans and has not been winning then that tells you how screwed up the PAC12 is. If they are letting SMU in I would bet CU, and the Arizona's are going to be talking to the Big2

SMU actually had higher attendance than UH last year.

Your invite to the AAC was to replace us.  This has been an open secret (although not a done deal) since before the latest invites

Yep.  The hold up has been the slight possibility of pairing up with Tulane for the ACC but they are locked in until 2030 (I think).

PAC knows they missed a huge opportunity by not getting into Texas when they had the chance a few summers ago during the UT/OU to SEC drama.  SDSU and SMU make a ton of sense to keep a foothold in Southern California and expanding the PAC footprint into the central time.

Oddly, if you are privy to the media consultant breakdowns, SMU TV viewership is much higher than you'd expect given attendance.  Why?  DFW interest? Old SWC curiosity?  SMU fans too elite to go to the game?  Schadenfreude?  Complete statistical anomaly that means nothing?  Don't know, don't care if it helps us.

Just like UNT, reported and actual are very different

There are a myriad of factors that go into conference realignment and football attendance might not be in the top twenty.  Academics, market, financial commitment, alumni giving rate, TV ratings, brand recognition, endowment, research dollars etc.

And while SMU hasn't had the top end success Houston has enjoyed over the last 15 or so years, we've been ranked three of the last four seasons in a pretty tough AAC.

It helps to have Stanford, CAL, Colorado, and UW in our corner from an academic perspective.

Y’all have been claiming insider knowledge of imminent moves to the Big 12, ACC, and now PAC 12. Looks like you finally found a P5 desperate enough to take you. One that will fall apart once the Big 10 decides they want Oregon and Washington.

Always thought the Big 12 was a pipe dream with so many Texas schools already represented that have zero interest in seeing a team in Dallas with deeper pockets being elevated as competition.  ACC and PAC have been in play for the past year.  I would prefer the ACC (and there was mutual interest in SMU and Tulane) but the timeline going out to 2030 is simply too long.  As mentioned earlier, time kills deals.

The PAC still has national brands like Utah, Oregon, UW, and now Colorado (thanks Coach Prime!)

Oregon and UW are both wanting to be invited to the Big 10, probably more than SMU wants the PAC12. If that happens, it seems likely at least two, if not all four of the group consisting of CU, Utah, and the Arizona's ends up in the BIG 12.

Well then SMU, AMF.

Nothing is done until there is a press conference on The Hilltop with a PAC logo.  Anything can happen.

But if the commish is here tomorrow then its as good as done.  No way you leak this to McMurphy (very reputable source) unless you are at the proverbial one yard line.

B1G has gone public that they are done expanding.  For now at least.  I'm sure both would love an invite but there was nothing stopping the B1G from offering them alongside UCLA and USC.  There's a reason why.

The four corner schools would rather be swallowed into the earth than be associated with Baylor, K-State, UCF, WVU as opposed to Stanford, CAL.

If the B10 wanted them, they would have taken them.  But regardless, let's say PAC explodes in 5 year - we are a lot better off with an extra $30M+ per year in media coverage plus 5 years of P5 media coverage, prestige, and recruiting

PAC media deal is poised to be at a higher $/school than the deal the Big 12 just announced without UT/OU.

With an expanded playoff the PAC champion is assured a seat at the table for a national title.  Unless the TV money is just wildly off then no there is very little incentive to join the Big 12.

I gotta say, you North Texas fans really need to clean the wax out of your ears or something.  As I have stated, many times on here to no avail, SMU will be moving to either the Big 12, Pac 12 or ACC in the very near future.

Whenever Notre Dame finally decides to join the Big 10, Oregon and UW will be added as well. Which will allow the Big 12 to absorb whatever leftovers they want.
But you’re right, those years of P5 cash will be nice.

Imagine spending 36k a player to go 7-5 in a G5 conference.

SMU in AAC 7-5

SMU in Pac 12 5-7

But you can bet the kid's college fund one of those 5 will be against UNT!
