It looks like later this year I'm part of a performance in FW, celebrating the 30th anniversary of Sting's Ten Summoner's Tales.  I got to thinking about what other music shares this birthyear.

It was a fantastic year!

Nirvana - In Utero
Pearl Jam - Vs.
Smashing Pumpkins - Siamese Dreams
Radiohead - Pablo Honey
DMB - Remember Two Things

...there was SO MUCH good music released this year.  What else would you add to this list?

Those are great Rock albums I spun the heck out of Vs.

In the Hip Hop genre, some awesome albums dropped that year too:

Midnight Marauders is one of my favorite All-Time albums, and one of the greatest rap singles of all time(C.R.E.A.M) came out on Enter the WuTang.

I like all of the ones you listed.  I’ll add Counting Crows: August and Everything After.  Fantastic album IMO.

Adam Duritz and their lyrics…loved all of that. If you’re not familiar, check out New Amsterdam (2003). One of my favorite live albums ever.

piling on to previous posts by saying August and Everything After (flawless album), Midnight Marauders and Enter the Wu-Tang...

adding to the conversation:
- Morphine - Cure for Pain
Mazzy Star - So Tonight That I Might See...
-
Guru  - Jazzmatazz v.1
Us3 - Hand on Torch
-
Liz Phair - Exile in Guyville
-
Red House Painters - Red House Painters I (Rollercoaster)
-
Jodeci - Diary of a Mad Band

really good year for music...though absolutely dwarfed by 1994, which might be one of the most stacked years of influential music we've ever seen

Yessir!   '94 was an incredible year.
I spun the heck out of that Weezer Blue Album, Nirvana Unplugged, Rubberneck, & Dookie (I'd include STP's Purple album as well).  Couldn't buy Illmatic (The Greatest Hip Hop album of all time IMHO, just a masterpiece encapsulating everything Hip Hop/Rap is about, & the producers on all the tracks... a who's-who.) or Ready to Die, but man I listened to tracks off of those any time I could (I'll never forget the first time I heard/saw the Hypnotize music video.  How's this ugly fat dude flowing like this?).  Southernplayalisticcadillacfunkymusic (or even ATLiens) wasn't on my radar until I got into high school & they blew up with Aquemini, but it's so great.

EDIT:  Ugh, Hypnotize was on Life After Death, ...way later.

The 90's were the last great decade of music.  There are still good artists and songs, but collectively, it hasn't been the same since the 90's.

Maybe mainstream is just shifting.

As I continue down my path in the music industry, the quality of music is INCREDIBLE, but the mainstream side does not push it at all.

Those service-provided playlists that you see on SPotify and the like are pretty terrible.  Radio has its formulas, because after decade after decade they think they have everything figured out....to make them more money.

Consumers just need to learn how to dig past all the crap.

I finally got around to listening to this (I can’t believe I wasn’t already aware of it).  I’ve got Live Across a Wire which I really like, but this one may just be better.  Glad to have both options now.  Thanks for the heads up.
