It does.. and if no more pennies are being pushed UNTs way for that signage it needs to be ripped down asap. Like, yesterday. Don't advertise for free.

Costs money to build and install an in-between sign package.

I'd assume the original contract had timing that the Athletic Department and Mean Green Sports Properties has to abide by in finding a new sponsor and removing the signage or taking it down all together.  There's a good chance if someone found the contract, that the Athletic Department actually has to pay Apogee past whatever that period is to use the name.

If you see UNT spending $1m+ on an interim sign package that replaces roadside, interior hung, exterior hung, and all printed materials with a generic "UNT Stadium" then you should assume that there was ZERO hope of finding a stadium sponsor.  Overall you should assume Athletic Department/Mean Green Sports Properties most likely needs the initial sponsorship payment installment to afford any new signage.

I know I'm not the only one who's thought "If I win this lottery tonight I swear I am going to give UNT like $300 million so we can actually compete"

Maybe one of us will hit the mega millions tomorrow. Then again the winner will probably be from Illinois or Cali like usual.

Nothing says big money operation like a classy label scar on your building.

We can be the Sears or Toys R Us of FBS football!

Seems to have worked out alright for those damn Astros.  Went from Enron to Minute Maid.

And that took 3+ months to organize from Enron bankruptcy to Minute Maid sponsorship announcement in early 2002.  That was actually a record turn on naming rights considering how bad of a situation Enron was and big of a hand they had in getting the ballpark downtown.

Sports Authority field was still Sports Authority field in Denver almost 6 months after their bankruptcy.  Denver gave up on getting a replacement deal on that and just bit the million dollar bullet and stripped the field of any naming for 3 full seasons.

Anyways. The obvious person to chase who can foot the bill is Ryan.  The only other North Texas alumni brand that I can think has any name recognition in North Texas would be Cavenders.

I always assumed that Apogee was forced to buy the naming rights to our humble football mecca as part of an agreement to get a networking contract for UNT.  It was a unique name, but it did nothing for them as a company.
