  • TheReal_jayD changed the title to Breaking: Aune Enters NFL Draft
Posted

Just saw a discussion on Facebook where the consensus was that Stetson Bennett (quarterback of the defending national champion Georgia Bulldogs who guided his team back to the championship game) is too old for the NFL because he is…drumroll please…26.

What did I miss? The edited post @TheReal_jayD put up an hour ago shows he clearly is not coming back so why all the whining before then?

He took his name out of the portal which was the original topic. A couple hours later he officially announced declaring for the draft and the topic was edited to reflect that.

As a coach?   Seriously, a 29-year-old new NFL QB?

He has some tools, but age and stats are not on his side:

Passing yds ~ 7,400,  TDs=56,  Int=28

Do you ridicule everyone who buys a lotto ticket as well? Officially declaring for the NFL Draft does not mean you expect to be taken, it means you are officially ending your amateur/collegiate eligibility. For all the “haters” out there, this seems to be his way of letting you know you don’t have to worry about him qb’ing your favorite team next year.

Honestly knowing the NFL. He will prolly be drafted in day 3 just for the story.

I agree. Somebody will use an extra 6th or 7th rounder on him, especially being a QB. Low risk, high reward. Plus, these guys are playing into their late 30s now. He may be 29 but his football age is much younger. If he ends up being a serviceable backup, nobody will care about age.

For me, I'll be rooting for him and his family. We've been clamoring for more UNT players in the NFL. I'm not going to crap on Aune just because he had some frustrating moments playing for our team.

Thanks for explaining that.
