For us non-ESPN+ subscribers?

my bad, they moved UNT in the 'work to do category' one of only 6 total mid-majors (including Gonzaga and St. Mary's) to make their article

North Texas Mean Green

With an eight-point road victory at Louisiana Tech, Grant McCasland's group has now won seven in a row and reached 22-5. North Texas dropped two games to Florida Atlantic but is 12-1 against the rest of Conference USA. For a second consecutive season, Mean Green guard Tylor Perry is lighting up the league with made shots from both sides of the arc and at the line at a listed height of 5-foot-11. UNT is one of 35 active Division I programs that has not faced a major-conference opponent this season. Nevertheless, the Mean Green clock in as a top-50 team in the NET rankings. (updated Feb. 16)

An announcer quoted UTEP’s coach during a broadcast (paraphrasing), “If we don’t have to play UNT, we don’t want to play UNT.”

at lot of those bubble schools are trending in the wrong direction

If NC looses to NC State tomorrow then they are done...USC probably has 2-3 losses left on their schedule and Memphis has to play Houston twice and visit Wichita st.  UNT would still need to win out and Utah St would probably need another loss in order to move UNT into contention.

How does the MWC get 4-5 bids?

No reason for them to get 5 and CUSA get 1. Our league reps in the NCAA Tournament have consistently over performed while perennially being under-seeded. Don’t know how the committee doesn’t see this.

It's probably the toughest reality of MBB right now.  Top tier mid majors - which usually includes 2-3 CUSA teams - really really struggle to schedule games against top competition....As Grant and Co have said, no one wants to play us.

On the committee's end, they want to see evidence that a team is worthy and we don't bring any (of that evidence) to the table.  The committee generally prefers trusting major programs that have played high-level competitoin - even if they've lost all of the games! - over teams that just lack said evidence.

So, here we are, one of a small handful of programs with stellar records but zero-to-few quality games to put on our resume.  It isn't that we are bad, it's that we haven't been afforded evidence that reflects we're good.  Not the kind of evidence, anyways, that the committee likes to see.

IIRC, this was one of the main reasons why Indiana got picked over us last year.

MWC is a solid basketball conference, they have 5 schools in the top 50 in NET (PAC12 has 2 in the top 50 in NET).  The problem with CUSA is the bottom of the conference is so bad it makes it hard to advance in the rankings.  This will change when we get to the AAC, Wichita and Memphis are very capable of being top 50, as well as a few other programs.

May the god of UNT Basketball make this happen.

Utah St. has a tough game tonight (7pm CBSSN) against Nevada (20-6).

Important game of the night IMO: Clemson losing to 4-23 Louisville. Clemson has been a bubble team in most brackets. Surely that'll be in the minds of decision makers come selection sunday.

Ok State got clobbered, Wisconsin lost (to another bubble team in Rutgers), Pitt lost. Few important games tomorrow. Sadly, Utah State beat Nevada. Will be interesting to see what the next bracket talk looks like.

Nevada had a 15 point lead at half, then fell apart in second half.

Yeah really sucks they couldn't finish it. During the UH - Memphis half time show they said UNC should all be out with this loss to NC State. North Carolina is 0-9 in Quad 1 wins. I realize we've played very few Quad 1s but 0-9 is hard to justify putting in the field. It'll come down to their conference tournament at this point and if they can make a run there.

Memphis lost to Houston and Maryland lost to Nebraska. Not that Maryland is in bubble talks, they're a "should be in," but any high major collapses are welcome.

Big game right now with Oregon in a close one against Washington state. Really need the cougars to win this one.

Yup. Didn't think they'd pull it out after Oregon came back from down 10 to up by 1 but they figured out a way to make more plays. Scrappy win. I'll take it.

Now to Boise State who is currently in. Would like them to beat UNLV. Not sure where they Rebels stand in all this but if Boise State is already in, I'd rather another MWC team not sneak their way into conversations.
