Gary played a huge part in coaching the DL at Houston this season. As well as winning some key recruiting battles. Gary is a rising star in coaching ranks.

I want to have faith in his hires, but when they say it starts in the trenches. With this one I can understand the skepticism.

To be fair, our last DL coach didn't have a lot of experience. He does have Texas ties at least. I'm not going to judge until later in the season, but it seems to be that we are going after young guys.

Only complaint about the hire is that in the 2019 game he sacked Mason Fine twice, but a lot of people sacked Mason Fine that year so I guess I won't hold it against him.

Morris was extremely upfront with his philosophy. He is brains of offense. Caponi is brains of defense. Svobado is brains on special teams. Fill out rest of staff with hungry, moldable RECRUITERS.

SMU fan chiming in. I cant say enough good things about Dem as a person and a leader. Just a outstanding individual. Give him a chance and don't hold it against him that he went to SMU. He will be great for you.

I will put money there is a  better chance Coach Gary gets picked up by a bigger program rather than fired within the next 36 months.

He played DLine and assisted at Arkansas and UH.  We have some good players on the dline. If he can help them while also bringing in some more talent, then I’m all for it. Welcome, coach!

He has, was the DL coach at North Crowley for a year and decided he really wanted to coach at the college level.  So he took a chance on himself entered the GA world and has quickly proven in college world he’s very capable.  
 

Maybe because it happened to me, but tough crowd and world when one can’t prove one way or the other they’re capable.  How does one do that if never given an opportunity? Fun fact, every HC,OC, DC, position coach, AD whatever you want had to be a first at some point.   Yes, this staff is giving a lot of people their first opportunity to prove it.  But guess what, Leach did the same for Morris so don’t think it’ll be the last as long as Morris is here.

I don't think we can view it as a bad hire just yet only because there is nothing to judge yet, we can definitely be concerned though. Its like a draft you really don't know till a couple years down the line.  I will say I am a lot more excited on him than the LB coach. I have heard nothing but great things on Gary's Recruiting and Coaching ability.

I'm all for hiring youth that has proven they can recruit with being mentored by experience staff. My concern is how much will NIL money play into commitments. I'm still a big proponent of the TP. GMG
