DRC: North Texas set to hire Bryan Kegans from Southern Cal as head strength coach, per source

Bryan Kegans came to USC in January of 2022 as associate director of football sports performance.
 
He spent the previous 4 seasons (2018-21) at Oklahoma, where he was assistant director of sports performance/director of sport science.  The Sooners won the Big 12 title in 2018, 2019 and 2020, made a pair of College Football Playoff semifinal appearances in 2018 and 2019 (in the Orange and Peach Bowls, respectively) and also coached in the Cotton Bowl in the 2020 season and the Alamo Bowl in 2021.
 
Before that, he was assistant head football coach and director of strength and conditioning for 2 seasons (2016-17) at Fulshear (Tex.) High.
 
He was the defensive line coach and strength and conditioning coach at John H. Guyer High in Denton (Tex.) for 2 seasons (2014-15).
 
In 2013, the 39-year-old Kegans was a strength and conditioning coach at Texas.  The Longhorns appeared in the 2013 Alamo Bowl.
 
He was the head basketball strength and conditioning coach at Texas Women’s University for 3 years (2011-13).
 
He spent the prior 5 seasons (2008-12) as the director of strength and conditioning at Guyer High, where they won the 2012 state championship.
 
He was an offensive lineman and special teams player for 4 years (2002-05) at Texas Tech, starting at guard as a 2005 senior.
 
He received his bachelor’s degree in Spanish from Texas Tech in 2005, then received a master’s degree in human movement from A.T. Still University in 2010.
 
He was a member of 2 state championship football teams at Stephenville (Tex.) High.
 
He was born on Sept. 8, 1982.  He and his wife, JoAnna have a son, Kelly, and a daughter, Kaci.
 
He holds certifications from NSCA (strength and conditioning specialist), USAW (sports performance specialist) and NASM (performance enhancement specialist, corrective exercise specialist and functional movement specialist).

When was the last time a North Texas coach hired so much of his staff from the likes of Texas, Alabama, & USC? Never! What a great time to be a Mean Green fan! 

Yeah, it's scary to get excited since we've been let down so many times before, but this does feel different.

Seems like we are making a concerted effort to upgrade our relationship with the Texas High Schools.  Fix the perception of UNT as a second or third option to top tier recruits.

I think this is long over due.

Let’s hope the pitch goes him was, we are about to announce plans for an expanded P5 weight room for the football team

He is from the area and he wasn’t the head S&C guy at USC.

Even Todd Dodge got a guy from USC's S&C to be our S&C coach.  Remember Charr Gahagan?

Again you have a 5,000sq ft weight room for every sport! Nutrition guy is a must.

      Softball vs. UAB (4/17 & 4/18/25)

      Mother Nature disrupts another softball series. With Easter on Sunday, and bad weather expected Saturday, the ladies will play one game tomorrow and a doubleheader Friday starting at 3 PM. Tight race in The American as we enter the last three conference series. UNT needs two wins this series to match their win total from last year. I maintain getting a top two seed is the highest priority but we are right there with #1 FAU and hold the tiebreaker, the only team in the conference to do so. Other Series This Weekend FAU @ East Carolina Memphis @ South Florida UTSA @ Charlotte Wichita State @ Tulsa I don't foresee South Florida or Charlotte losing this weekend, so a sweep at home against UAB is almost necessary.

      We’re not alone

      I read somewhere before the teams were even seeded that Florida, Auburn, Duke, and Houston were a step above every other team. There was some metric/stat they showed to back up the statement. So, yes, I think those teams were accurately seeded…though TT almost had something to say about it.

He reported also that Johnson left towards the end of the season. I knew I didn't see her any longer, but I thought maybe injuries, but it turns out she left like Abou did a few years back. Brackens went into the portal and has since landed at Tarleton State. The only people he says that are coming back are Tac, who was injured all season, Chania Price, and Talley.
