How many scholarships do we have to give out?

That’s a pretty robust list.  
 

I hope we hit the portal hard.  I’m not sure we have time to mature HS kids when our competitors are pulling in plug and play starters.  
 

I will say, though, the cornerback from Desoto (Mathis) was a player last night when I watched in the state championship and if he stays committed he will be fun to watch in a year or two.  I am also pretty bummed that the kid Amador from North Shore is headed to UTSA, he was special last night.

I thought the announcer said we ranked #110 in defense.

Get good play at the QB position.  Talent/development/coaching...whatever.

Get a DC/staff that can coach our defense into better positioning/smarter play.

And continue to work to upgrade our talent, starting at the line(s) and working your way back.

This roster is leaps and bounds better than what it was when SL took over. Our DL is the only glaring issue to me, outside of identifying the next QB. Defense goes as the DL goes. Most secondaries can't keep up with receivers after 4 or 5 seconds since defense is all reactive to begin with. It's up to the DL to create pressure on the QB and up to the DL to swallow up blockers for LBs to get in and work on run plays before the RBs get to the second level. We need size and depth there and I think the defense will work itself out.

Kicker is the third big need outside of DL and identifying the next starting QB. I say identifying the next QB because we really don't know what we have since they got such little opportunities. Our next QB could already be on the roster.
