Congratulations on becoming the Head Coach at UNT. I look forward to seeing your plans for the program.

BUT as you hurriedly go about the business of recruiting and filling the roster with playmakers, please remember this......

Probably need to clarify to him that the monicker came before Big Joe became Mean Joe, too.

I don't doubt you but I swear I've heard on at least 20 broadcasts that it was indeed Joe Greene that was what they named it for.

It is not.  I have not heard that on any of the recent broadcasts that I've listened to, but maybe I missed it.

I had an email exchange with Randy Galloway about this.  If you do not know him, he was the beat writer for our sports back then.

Our moniker may have come around because of Big Joe's contributions (he was called Big Joe in Denton), but we are not named AFTER him.
