North Texas: We're told Eastman & Beaudine is handling the Mean Green's AD search while Parker Executive Search is handling the coaching search. North Texas aims to hire an AD first -- by the end of the week, ideally -- before zeroing in on the football search.

I read it as they already have finalists for both but won’t make the final HC decision until after AD is done.

So they are just wanting to make sure they are all in agreement and the new AD can say no, or is it just a case of rubber stamping?

No idea, I’m just going off the verbiage used. When I hear “zeroing in”, I don’t think beginning phases

I personally feel like the wheels for both have been in motion well before Littrell was fired and this is just a tying up of loose ends. I just don't see Neal as a reacting by the seat of his pants kind of guy.

You can bet they are down to a few finalists on the HC front. I am starting to get really excited.

Sounds like Smatesk botched this all around

I read this about Mac's extension and the last round of conference realignment.  What have I learned?  They are way ahead of the game and don't break any news until things are finalized.

There's no way Neal would just let Littrell go without having things in motion on that front.
Honestly, this info (if true) just makes me think the AD role, which was probably also already in motion pre-Wren's WV hire, was found a little more quickly than I thought it would.    Hopefully that means it's a really good one!

I disagree, I dont think that they have been seriously looking at other coaches until very recently.  They should have fired him after the Memphis game, or at least come out and state that he would not be coming back the following season.  That would have given them plenty of time find a new coach and build a coaching staff.  Dec 5th is that start of the transfer window, if they knew he would be gone earlier in the season then they would have been prepared and had a coach in place on Dec 5th.

Maybe, if the AD is hired first, then they can blame him if the coach doesn't work out.

I'm concerned other school's selection and hiring processes seem to be quicker and more deliberate than ours, except Tulsa's, lol.  Maybe Neal has a plan?

Several coaches off the board already.  I still favor Fuente.  Is he on standby or do we need to fly a banner?  Priority for us should be a HC with winning experience, Texas connections, portal familiarity, HS coach-friendly, media and fan friendly and comfort!  Anyone else need not apply!

I suppose our HC search is hindered/delayed by the need for an AD first.  But if Neal already had a short list, does it need sold to the new AD or does Neal get the over-ride vote?

The University has to hire a freakin search firm to hire a football coach?  UNT has more money to burn than I thought.

Exactly what I’ve been thinking since this whole process started!!!   Arrange a meeting with the remaining AD staff, come up with names of coaches you’re interested in, then contact them to see if there is a mutual interest.  It’s not complicated.  Money saved by not using a search can go into an assistant coaches salary/bonus pool.

My understanding is that this is how it's done 90+% of the time.  We've been doing it this way since the end of the RV era.
