So, add the 2.3  million buyout for MaCarney and it’s easy to see that someone isn’t making wise decisions.

Making progress by only having to pay $1.6M instead of $2.3M. No coach makes it to the final year of their contract without an extension or being fired. Its called a lame duck if they do.

That clause requires Littrell to seek a comparable job with a “market-rate salary” after being fired.

The contract defines market rate as either the average total compensation for the position Littrell takes among public schools in the conference he lands in or the three-year average for the position at the school where he takes a job.

The lesser of those two totals will define the “market rate.”

So, if NT goes lucky and he takes/gets the Tulsa job, NT will not actually owe much at all. If he becomes a coordinator at a P5 that will probably also be at least close to a million in mitigation. The "analyst" route would obviously not help nearly as much.  Only if he does nothing will it be fully on NT. The language in the contract there is actually a lot better than I had remembered. Good chance NT may be able to take a decent part of that buyout off the book within the next few weeks.
