The first round games are scheduled to take place at the home field of the highest ranked teams and not taking the slots of any bowl games.

So, Four of the top 12 teams are going to lose in the first round. Do they get to turn around and play in a bowl (would seem doubtful)?

The "regular" bowls they would have been in are not lower tier games. So do those games go to lower ranked teams? Will this mean more 5 win teams will potentially be in bowls at the bottom end?

Yes, the expanded playoff are going to suck the oxygen out of the remaining bowls.  The playoff games are going to get better time slots, more media coverage and ultimately the advertising dollars.  The remaining bowls will lower their payouts in response to the shift in advertising dollars.  The real question is if we will see a contraction of 2 or more bowls or if they will get those and take a few 5-7 teams every year.
