Help me understand the play call there. The previous two TD drives went like this:

First drive: run for 7. Pass for 6. Run for 4. Run for 10. Run for 2. 36 yard TD pass to a kid that catches a TD on every other pass thrown to him in one on one coverage. Smart.

Second drive: pass for 12. Pass for 12. Run for 4. Run for 3. Run for 9. Run for 4. Run for 9. Run for 1 yd TD.

Then we get the ball. Down two scores. 11:05 left. We decided to throw a 50/50 ball to a freshman with one career catch, which was in the first game. Make it make sense!!!

We had just hit Horton on a deep ball over the middle a drive or two earlier.  On that play Horton ran a route that looked to take the safeties with him over the middle again.  We got a 1:1 outside as a result and Aune took it.  Ball was just under thrown and the DB made the play.

Not a dumb call.  Just didn’t get executed.

You can maybe question the personnel there.  Like you said, redshirt freshman with one catch?  You’d definitely rather have Shorter (or any number of guys) on the end of that.

There isn't a way to make it make sense....

I think the personnel was more eyebrow raising than the call.
