That was the key to each of the past 6 years, a clutch go-to player. We don't have that yet defined on this team.
Players are starting to show their true abilities, and I hope Ross doles out minutes proportional to that. Lorient, Walker, and Massie are studs and should get max minutes. Others have been hot and cold.
The offense is definitely still a work in progress. Our guards get stuck passing it around the 3-point arc to themselves and then launch a desperation 3. We set picks only to end up 5 feet away with the same guard dribbling covered by the same defender. What's the point?
We drive the paint but become out of control and throw it up hoping to draw a foul. Sissoko backs down his guy in the paint several times and then misses a 3-foot shot. It gets old. Points off breakaways were our only offense last night. Better opponents won't allow that to happen.
I get trying to drive the paint to draw fouls to go to the free throw line. McNeese did it to us and won the game on free throws because we are too handsy on defense sometimes. We built a 10-4 foul advantage on Oregon State in the 2nd half...then gave up 5 fouls in under 2 minutes as they drove the paint on us too.
Exactly, unless we are going to pay unrivaled G5 coaches salaries for proven coaches this is the way to go. Most people aren't in depth knowledgeable college football fans. And I sincerely believe that none of the coaches besides the top 20% really provide more value to the program than they are paid in salary. The Mean Green Football brand doesn't recruit well by itself. So either we need to get into a P4 conference or do something substantial over a 3 year period to change that. The extensions for Littrell was just stupid and we kept him an extra year to hire a clone just with some FCS head coaching experience.
This program just does dumb stuff which makes all the losing insufferable. I know if were this bad at my job with clearly bad decisions creating these kinds of results year by year not only would I like lose my job. The company I am high up in the chain of command of would probably have massive layoffs.
I do think if we could get a coach that has done something significant at P4 program South of Mason Dixon line in the past decade-15 year it might would worth paying 10%-20% more than what we normally pay.
The opposite direction would be lowering ticket prices and playing just one "money game" a year and just hiring a "good coach" with "decent resume" like a Morris or Littrell.
