Tulsa is firing Philip Montgomery. Does Seth go back to his home state? Just kidding that would be a step down, but it's interesting that a future conference mate has an opening. GJ Kinne down at Incarnate Word played QB here about 12 years ago. I could see them going after him.

We can dream...

But he'd make less at Tulsa than he would doing the bare minimum here for a year.

Now he's going to fail his way upwards against a badly injured UTSA without their QB and collect his extension on the way to a 2-10 year in the AAC (we still play rice and an FCS team right?)

How is Tulsa a step down?

Even Google says so:

Tulsa

City in Oklahoma

Description

Tulsa is a city on the Arkansas River, in the U.S. state of Oklahoma. It’s known for its art deco architecture, mostly in the central Deco District. Landmarks like the Philcade and Philtower buildings reflect a 20th-century construction boom fueled by the prosperous local oil industry. The Philbrook Museum of Art is housed in an Italianate villa that was once the home of a local oil magnate. ― Google

Denton

City in Texas

Description

Denton is a city in Texas within the Dallas-Fort Worth metro area. In its center, the striking Denton County Courthouse-on-the-Square Museum explores local history. Nearby, the Bayless-Selby House Museum is a grand Queen Anne–style home with Victorian interiors. Outdoor sculptures dot the University of North Texas campus. Southeast, huge Lewisville Lake is ringed by parks and marinas, and full of bass and catfish. ― Google

At least, it's a step down in number of students.  The University of Tulsa has the smallest number of students in the FBS.  Still, it's very high in academics.  I'd still call it a step across.  It's in the same conference that we'll be going to next year.  We've had a moderate rivalry with them going back to MVC days.  If my memory is correct, UNT scored our first 2-point play (the year it was initiated) in a win over Tulsa when Abner Haynes was a sophomore (1958).  Abner scored the two points.

Last time I was on the Tulsa University campus, it felt like ESD or St. Marks high schools in Dallas. Not exactly the same university feel as a school like UNT. Even less of uni feel than SMU..
