Did you know that the Administration Tower is only being lit for home wins now?  No parade for stupid reasons and now this. Sounds like this has been the case for the last five years. UNTBarstool posted on Twitter a picture of a dark Administration Tower after the WKU win and tagged Wren Baker. A friend of mine with ties to Talons says this was a decision made back in 2017. One of the reasons given now is that it just takes too much time to go over there and flip a switch for every team’s wins even though it is tradition and the AD supports all these programs with a name of tagline of “Light the Tower”.  Another reason was some were scared of catching Covid. I know some Talon alumni post on here. If one of you read this can you expand on or explain this?

There is no good explanation for this.  I managed to walk over to that tower for four years…even when we played on the road.

This school is so damn soft.  Nearly any news I hear of unt I'm usually embarrassed.  This is unacceptable.

Seems like a good opportunity for someone to develop an app for turning those lights on.  My bet is that one already exists.

Well, I can turn my house lights on from anywhere in the world, so….

I mean, I don’t know what kind of light switch it is for the tower, though… perhaps some kind of giant master breaker like in Frankenstein (or Young Feankenstein)? gotta punch in a code and turn two keys SIMULTANEOUSLY? a series of dead man toggle switches that must be flipped in sequence or the whole tower goes up in flames? A precise mix of yellow and ultra rare blue lightning bugs induced into a mating frenzy in order to form whatever our current shade of green is?

As stated above, this task can be handled with a simple digital remotely controlled switch from anywhere in the world. There is no physical reason for not lighting the tower for every athletic victory in every sport. Every time.
So, that leaves us with the question: Why is this not done?

This is extremely disheartening and I’m sorry but this decision lies directly at the feet of Dr. Neal. We cancel the damn parade and let the Talons shirk their responsibilities.  There is a real assault on our democracy and traditions in this country!

Unfortunately, so true. 

And I try to represent at work, to family, friends... but I'm often an easy target due to the university. I used to but and if, now I just shrug my shoulders.

Another one bites the dust.  They also stopped putting wire hoop signs in the ground, at the beginning of the week for home games,  to encourage student support.

Sounds like something the Talons can buy with their funds ... a laser projector and make that tower green with UNT insignia. Who needs to person with the switch access?

It seems the closer we get to what can be some really  good stuff happening the more critical & pissed off at our school we become.  
God help us if we ever win a national championship. Many will have nauseous stomachs.

This only applies to home games, but I made a suggestion earlier this year in the basketball forum (would apply to football as well) that after a home victory, the video display would switch to a live shot of the tower.  The Talons or whoever could come to center court (or field) with a big green button that when pushed, lit the tower (done remotely) and this would be a great tradition to keep the home crowd in the stands to actually see/participate in the lighting instead of it being done when no one is around to witness it.  They could make a big to do about it and would only take an extra 5-10 minutes after a game and allow the fans to celebrate the victory with the team.  Some things are too easy to not be done.

      Yes, I agree with the UNT provided fact sheet is probably lacking critical information. That wouldn’t surprise me. Whoever left off “2023 NIT Champs” needs demoted. But also it’s on the professional broadcasters to do their own homework on teams they cover. You want to provide your newly tuned in audience a reason to watch this game about to happen. Most talk about our defense and up and coming Ross Hodge. It’s doesn’t take 3 minutes to google a programs basketball history and see their postseason accomplishments.

      Certainly helps! However, Montana for instance, has a better record than us, but I don't really see them bantered about. I actually think it's more about THIS PARTICULAR STAT than anything else. Notice another team that is constantly showing up on the same lists is just above us, and several other teams on these lists are also in the top 10. Teams that play like we do give other teams fits. Basketball people know who we are, and know how dangerous we can be.

      Yeah, but this is on the basketball program itself. Broadcasters can know the big names at big schools and big time players. But, when they walk into a UNT, or even a Memphis and VCU (as an example), the school is supposed to give the broadcasters all of the talking points that they want mentioned during the games. Those points include individual achievements about each player, stats, team stats, and recent accomplishments. If that point is included in the talking points sheet, then I'd agree with you, but I don't think it's a coincidence that the broadcasters fail to mention it except one who probably remembered it himself.

      Not sure if everyone knows this....but the basketballs that the women use....are slightly smaller than the ones that men use. So just by that......it ought to be even a smidgen easier for them to make a FT.
