Just sitting here watching the SMUt UCF game and thinking to myself, what could we have accomplished the last 8 years with a good coach like him at the helm.  No Seth hasn’t been bad, but he hasn’t gotten us to where we deserve to be either.  Would love to see us get a big time coach finally.  We deserve it.

Are we sure we'd want a P5 retread like Gus? I was told in other threads that P5 retreads like Gus Malzahn  would fail because Dan McCarney failed here. I was told we need somebody young who knows how to do everything and is an expert at all the things and knows how to recruit all the obscure areas of Texas and is the best coach but again, he's young so he somehow learned all of this before age 40.

Sad to say you are correct.  UNT is always looking to hire someone that is safe and won't ruffle any feathers it seems.  I think that's partly why they are hesitant to do anything with Seth.  Yes he's a mediocre coach but he doesn't get in much trouble with HR.

You have to remember that UNT is a liberal campus. We aren't hiring anyone associated with rape...

I don't think being a liberal campus has anything to do with that.  It is a wise decision for any university that values winning and character.

I agree completely--but this isn't a conservative school that would let anyone think that women's rights wasn't being taking seriously, like they did at Baylor or at Liberty.

I have no problem with a P5 rebound who had G5 success as a HC first. Fuente also has Texas ties.

Huge difference between a guy who came up only through P5 channels with little-to-no G5 experience (A guy like Odom would fit that mold) VS a guy who showed success at the G5 level before moving up to P5 (Fuente fits this mold).
Fuente came up when TCU was still in the MWC, then took Memphis from 2-10 to 10-3 in 3 years.   And his overall record at VATech was 43-31, but that didn't meet the high standards that HOF'er Beamer set & maintained for them over decades.   
BTW, his replacement at VATech is not doing better.  VATech dropped their first game to ODU, and have lost their last 2 to juggernauts: WVA & UNC, by a combined score of 74-20.

I believe in forgiveness.

I also think one should be super cautious about people going into situations where they messed up again.

I wouldn't hire a forgiven pedophile to be youth minister nor a thief to run the cash register.

I'd not hire Briles to run a college football program nor would I hire Freeze to coach or administer a college program.

Gus? I'd take Gus back in Jonesboro in a heart-beat. Team kept getting closer and closer to perfection. He's a weird dude. He needs the right assistants around him to maintain team morale or you'll lose the team. Need someone on staff who can land the right QB or you have a mess.

Fuente if he wants to head coach again will do a good job in the right place

Thanks for the info and I agree. If he is even a possibility I hope he gets a strong look.

He's probably the number 1 candidate at this point. He was at Memphis when Wren was Associate AD. Lots of ties there

      And camps. Just from Twitter, people claim it’s highly attended, organized, and well run. At the very least, it gets kids on campus and further develops a relationship with the kid/families/coaches. He’s been a positive for UNT.

      Unfortunately, I feel like pep bands all over the country are largely getting sidelined for the DJ music and "Let's make some noise!" kinda stuff. It's definitely not unique to NT.

      Oregon State final thoughts -- game presentation, etc

      Football season ticket holder here that normally starts going to b-ball games once the calendar flips to the new year & my schedule opens up. But since UNT is a #basketballschool now, starting earlier this year. First off, anyone agree with this assessment? When I go to football games I'm just waiting for the proverbial kick to the nuts in the second half. East Carolina was a perfect microcosm of this. Oh look! We're up 21-0!! What are we going to do to blow it? And sure enough, we do. Over and over again. With basketball, I feel the exact opposite. Whether it's Minnesota, Oregon State, etc, what are we going to do to win it? And more times than not, we do!! Clutch, clutch, clutch. Well done team! I love it. Really liked the game presentation too. The only thing I've noticed is it seems the pep band is getting less "air time" if that makes sense at the expense of giving the hype guy more exposure. Kinda an ass-whip if you ask me. "SOMEBODY MAKE SOME NOOIISE!!!!!", "EVERONE SCREAM HELL YEAH!!!!". We can be loud on our own without being told, thank you very much. It s almost like a warm-up act before he heads down to Dallas for his 2nd job at Baby Dolls. With that solid radio DJ voice he can then bark out "EVERYONE SCREAM HELL YEAH!! AND GIVE IT UP FOR DESTINY ON THE MAIN STAGE!!!!". Don't act like you don't know what I'm talking about there. 🤣🤣 Happy Thanksgiving all and Go Mean Green!

      The dislike for Coach O is incredible and this just shows what type of fans we truly have. His job is to get interaction with high school players and coaches and he's done a better job of that than anyone in the history of this school. His job is to get them looking at us and willing to talk to the school and that is happening.
