I bet we see him run with much more authority than we saw from him last year as the starting QB.

He didn't do anything with authority last year so that would be a welcome change. Well, other than throw it to the other team with authority.

Edit: I'll take it a step further. Earle showed more decisiveness and moxy in one single series than Ruder did in four games last year.

Any explanation yet as to why Earle was put in the game at that time? It seemed to come out of left field.

Watch from the 7:15 mark.

That's a good point too. Would make way more sense because he didn't seem too banged up after the play on replay.

His pads were off for the rest of the game, but he wasn't iced up or braced in any way that I could see. Off-week makes more sense.

Seth said he had been working hard and they liked the variation he brought. Essentially, he brought a different element (running).

I wonder if he misspoke when he said "offseason" and meant the "off week"

Great point. Makes way more sense than “a little dinged up” = knowing he’s out for season immediately after the game ended.

So, we were only going to play him If the game was close?  Since we had the game in hand, we wanted to give him an extra week to rest, because we will definitely use him against UTSA?  Is that what I can convince myself of?

Just one question Mean Green Faithful, why? Why even give him a shot if there weren't doubts? Especially early on before we knew we had the game in hand?

Discuss this event freely here. Personally? I think SL is trying to find a way to see what he's got that could maybe complete more than 50% of his passes.

At this point being committed to a 30 yr old qb who hands off the ball 40 times a game is enough to be fired on. We are toast against teams who can stop the run, we live and die by it. Gunnell or Earle can’t be much worst than Aune, but if they come in and light it up after a full week of reps then it makes littrell look bad.
