Can someone fill me in or direct me to more information on Ray?  Intended use, meaning, so forth. 

Love dogs, am active in animal rescue, and don't want to misuse Ray in anyway.

I believe that was former UNT QB  Nathan Tunes dog and several years ago it ran away.  The head of the UNT alumni association at that time was a guy named Mark Miller and he organized a search party to help find him.

Thank you for the info.  That's sad, I hope it worked out. 

I've used it once when I thought something was cute - like a cute dog sticker - not sure how I think about it now.

There were many twists and turns in the saga of Nathan Tune. He was a walkon from Celina who was eventually put on scholarship. He was a backup for most of his career and almost quit due to celiac disease and the depth chart. When Vizza left, Tune decided to hang around to backup Riley. He finally got the starting gig in his senior season because Riley’s arm was so damaged by then. Two games in he dislocated his hip, ending his career. Then his dog, Ray, went missing. Not long after that, our starting transfer receiver from OU impaled himself jumping over a fence trying to get away from a pit bull. That made the legend of Ray grow. I don’t know if he was ever found or if he was chasing Tyler Stratford but it is all part of the legend.

I think it is nebulous like the RV. Means whatever you want it to mean.

Fans of other college football teams have it so easy (and boring quite frankly) compared to being a Mean Green fan.  Maybe it happens with other programs and we just don't hear about it.  Some of this stuff you can't make up.

Haha yeah I agree with you.  Sometimes I worry  if we get good and things are running smoothly  that I’ and many other UNT fans will lose interest.  People are drawn to the constant drama I suppose.

Yes sir, Tune dislocated his hip, Thompson broke his leg, and Riley broke his wrist, so walkon wide receiver Chase Baine took over early in our 5 point loss to ASU and started the FIU game which would be Todd Dodge’s last UNT game. We were also on our 3rd string center (Johnson tore a tendon and Leppo tore an ACL) which didn’t help the center-quarterback exchange.

Someone asked for a story.... Was anyone else at Tavern when Tune got "escorted out" by some members of the defense who came to get him because he was in their talking smack after a game that he basically had a hand in losing?

I have a vague memory of it as I do most things that occurred on Fry Street after a certain hour but I remember talking about it a few days afterwards. 

I'm thinking it was this game since he threw a pick six at the end of the game and gave Ohio the first lead of the game and the win.

I once witnessed a portly woman corner Tune in the club level and drunkenly ask him if he was the one who lost his dog.

(Tune - takes a sad pause, looks down at cup): “Yeah that was me.”

”Did they ever find him?”

”No. No they didn’t.” 

(Everyone looks down awkwardly for 20 seconds.)

Pretty sure that was the day Dunbar rushed for 313 against MTSU, but it’s all jumbling together. I’ll never forget that sad exchange though and try to channel that same energy into every Ray vote I give. 
 

EDIT: on further reflection, this was the 2012 MTSU game bc it was sunny. Now I feel like the guy who used to only post about Chase Baine from Lake Dallas for two years in our peak player and coaches family participation era of GMG.
