He makes 900k and has Gameday at their stadium tomorrow.

Our coach makes approximately double that and can’t win meaningful games.

to quote Wren “we can do better!”

Yea and Scott Frost was making $1.7 million at UCF, now Nebraska is paying him $15 million not to coach at all. Flavor of the week, there will always be a coach at a less funded school who performs well. For that one that performs well, there are just as many or more that don’t.

Do you think Scott Frost would have left UCF for a whole lot less than 17mil ?

It seems to me that the new coach (or CEO or president or minister) must, MUST make at least what the previous guy made.  The previous pay is the starting point for the new guy’s salary.

So, in a nutshell, there is always going to be better coaches than SL and we don't have to pay 2M a year to find that coach?

No if that salary put us in a year 7 mediocre coach bind.  If a coach with head coaching experience comes in here as a proven recruiter within this area fine.   But if you bring in a first time head coach midrange for AAC conference salary is appropriate.
