There were some obvious issues.  But it was one game.  If he can get those issues largely worked out before the next game, that is the mark of a good coach.

So SMU was one game and now Texas Southern is one game. And if you watch now back from the first game utep's quarterback has regressed from last year greatly

Just a horrible showing against a D2 team.  Frankly it was embarrassing to watch. Poor technique, arm tackling.  It’s time for him and his group of coaching gypsies to move on.

They aren’t D2, they are FCS. ENMU where Kason Martin plays is D2.

I assume you are taking into consideration, that the defense with a few exceptions is having to be rebuilt.

The offense returns almost everyone.

You could also make the case that the defense was horrible in the first half, but second half adjustments make by the defense turned the game around.

My guess is that NT particularly on the defensive side thought this was a gimme game and they could dominate without a lot of effort.  Give TSU some credit, they played hard and surprised NT in the first half.

I can say the back ups on defense are better than in years past.  They came in the team would score right away.

These guys at least look like they played the sport before.

Our backup safeties are better than at least one of the starters.

Well, I suppose.  But, IMO, he earned enough trust last year that I think calling for him to fired at this point in the season is more than a little rash.

We are really missing the Murphy twins. There were times where they took games over last year. Richards, Leota, Trieb can't fill their shoes. Really wish we could have held on to Kobe Savage who now starts for Kansas State. I know first hand Kobe would have stayed committed had we offered a teammate of his at Tyler JC who eventually signed at another FBS school. We signed 9 transfers, Only Maclin and Richards are getting regular playing time. Not sure about Neville and Gunnell plays a little I guess. You can't tell me we couldn't have offered the other kid to secure his commitment and get a good safety for the first time in Seths time here??? Dumb

I feel like we let shit like this just slip through the cracks all the time. Like, we don't need to cut deals, we're freaking North Texas.

I vote for we see how the UNLV game looks - I think like another poster that we just thought we show up and whatever defense we were in would work i.e. look at their yardage last week. They came to play and played hard they did - we made adjustments in the second half and they worked in my opinion. I will agree that we gave up too many yards to an undermanned opponent and we undercoached the 1st half.

Anyone ever consider that part of the problem is that Texas Southern had a better starting quarterback than we did?

Don’t let the stats fool you, 80% of Aune’s passing yards were RAC.  Texas Southern’s QB threw a better ball.

Now we definitely need better safeties as well (or at least one of them).

The program is a reflection of the fan base, including the people who complain about everything.  The program has taken huge steps to get better, and it takes decades to improve a program that historically has been trash.  I feel like the sports at UNT is on the rise and I am proud of the work that is being done.  Are there areas that can be better, Yes.  If more of us will stop complaining about the number of people in the stands and get to the games, and bring somebody with you.

We gotta do a better job at keeping the guys who are producing.  However, I also think that the twins are missing us.  Not sure if they will have the opportunity to play together and impact the game together as they did here at UNT.  I would not be surprised to see them back at UNT.  We must do a better job a utilizing the portal.
