Need someone that wants to be here to stay here and make it right. Younger hungry guys with salty ones to give guidance and wisdom. Build it, extend it and then when someone calls you make the jump and others stay behind to continue. This has been their model

Is it lost on everyone that two of the wealthiest P5 football programs (A$M, ND) were taken down by G5 teams from Appalachia (App. State and Marshall); a region known for decades of grinding poverty?

I think something bigger is being uncovered already and that is that the NIL $ may not buy wins after all. These guys are essentially yearly free agents who may have little to no loyalty to their college teams and may lose to much less talented and funded programs. They are just essentially football mercenaries. Heck why would a guy even accept a scholarship if they were making more than $100K in NIL $$. I wouldn't because then there is no contractual obligation between me and the Univ.? Even NFL teams don't let this crap happen for the same reason. NFL players typically have longer contracts.

I have to admit that yesterday was one of the happiest days of my college football watching years seeing ND and the A&M lose AT HOME to two schools with not even a fraction of the funding. Very glad to see both teams season end and all the NIL $$ wasted.

Great post. Only thing to make yesterday perfect would've been if somehow Bama and UT could've both lost.

I am down on Coach L.500 as anyone but I don’t blame him a bit for taking our program’s money.  If they are that stupid it is up to upper leadership to fire the people mismanaging the athletic budget.   We should NEVER be in a position where unloading a mediocre coach for on field performance puts us in budget crunch.   Everything has been in place for this program to be 0.500 in a weak CUSA for his entire tenure.  And the truth is that if Fine doesn’t fall into his lap he wouldn’t be close to 0.500 here and likely not employed here in 2021 or 2022.  He owes Fine an assistant job with a fat check if he gets power hire coaches at another school.  Or may just a fat 100k backpay NIL check from his own pocket.  I first called these extension as stupid when most people were way too happy to be above 0.500 with no Bowl wins or conference titles.  There aren’t a lot of job in the world that pay above 500k so we need to stop conducting business like we are lucky to have a qualified person take our athletic budget dollars.  That freaking atitude is the source of the “bad culture” here NOTHING else.  Stop blaming Denton, our schools history or etc.  If it was all about just history and money the blue blood programs would never have bad stretches.

I'm not trying to take anything away from the Sun Belt but what Marshall did has absolutely nothing to do with them being in the sun belt. The team they're putting on the field is not a different team because they joined the Sunbelt over the offseason

      24/25 MBB Attendance Tracker

      Student turnout is absolutely embarrassing. A Mean Green basketball game should be an absolute EVENT for the student body: even on Christmas break. Most of these kids live in DFW and would enjoy an opportunity to get away from their parents for an evening. An easy connection that has not been made here is with the Greeks. Did you see all the High Point Greek pledges wearing suits to the basketball game when we played them at their place? Why aren’t OUR Greeks competing throughout the season to show the most support for the basketball team/athletic program? The winner gets their letters displayed prominently inside the Super Pit/DATCU, gets their own commercial on the video board and Hell, Mosley should be putting up his own $$ as a cash award to incentivize this. There could be Greek basketball All-Star games at halftime or after our game to encourage attendance and get the whole community out. We gotta find a way to get consistent Greek attendance at these games. And once you have that base of students who are always there, it can turn into a snowball effect.

      I would imagine that against a true double tight end set or heavier formation he has the ability for that Jack to end up being an actual defensive lineman, but in today's game the need to be able to multiple based on formations, offenses etc. Jack LB's end up being the nice in between. Yeah you give up some on 3rd or 4th and short but the idea is that 1st and 2nd down you keep them in less favorable down and distances by having a more athletic guy on the field. I believe last season nationally the percentages on 3rd and 2 or less was like 68 percent conversion rate offensively. I as much as anyone want to see a defense on the field we can be proud of. Just like the HOD Bowl championship defense. The reality is though if you're living in 3rd and short as a defense you probably aren't getting very many stops.

      I hear you, but this is the AD's JOB. It is what they get paid to do to. They should have goals/objectives around these metrics and strategies/programs to achieve them. What are the goals? What are they doing to achieve them? We (the collective fan base) pay somewhere in the neighborhood of $9,000,000 a year in overall AD salaries, compensation and bonuses. Throw in another $4,000,000 or so annually in "overhead and administrative expenses." Fund raising, marketing and promotion is a little over $900K (total for all sports). I wonder how much is going to promote basketball to the local community?

      I agree overall. Was just thinking out loud. If I'm a P4 school and there's still scholarship limits, I'd probably rather take the high school freak athlete. Now, maybe I could give the other guy an NIL deal to pay for school as a PWO but how many of those guys would be scholarship worthy talents. Don't know why you think it's so improbable. Look at a guy like Phil Knight and Oregon. He could buy a couple pro teams if he wanted to pay 27 year olds to play ball and get bragging rights. The more we remove ourselves from college sports, I think it's reasonable to wonder if guys like him lose interest. Not saying we're there yet. Just saying it's not impossible...
