I guarantee when SMU beats Lamar next week, your official Twitter won't be screaming, "stiLLLL just that team from Beaumont."  Obviously, there's a little extra fuel in y'all's fire when you play us.

Nope.  Gotta win more than one every seven or eight years to be a rivalry.  Its a fun game b/c of close proximity and nothing more.

Yes, the Red Sox not winning the world series for 90 years really meant they didn't have a rivalry with the Yankees. And this is purely an analogy, lest you think anyone rates you in the same ballpark as the Yankees.

It isn't the game results that make a rivalry.  It's how the fans, institutions, and especially players approach the games.

Although it does seem that few of the games are close, even when NT wins it's usually a blowout

The game is way more important to UNT than SMU.  Its an easy win against a regional opponent.  Good attendance and easy travel.  Nothing more.

Just b/c you play an opponent a bunch of times doesn't make it a rivalry.  SMU is UNT's Super Bowl.  That doesn't mean that SMU cares about UNT.

Just like when we beat Texas Southern next week, there will be about 50% less people at Apogee to watch it…SMU knows they recruit against us. They know that beating us badly every year helps their record. It’s that simple…

I agree with half the stuff y'all say on here but this is a poor take. YOU may not think the game matters but the tweet from your school says otherwise. It may not be your super bowl like TCU is but the game clearly matters more than other games otherwise the tweet wouldn't have said what it did.

Question, do you have accounts on every fan forum of teams you regularly play or just UNT's?

Pretty much this…y’all get to play us for an almost sure win every year in OOC that costs you nothing for travel, while also getting thousands upon thousands of MG fans to show up to your place every other year to see us get plastered, then you get to watch the nuclear fallout that comes from our entire fanbase crying after these ass-kickings.

Its a one-sided rivalry in every way imaginable.

The problem as I see it is the whole thing is a scam.  Dave and Hank will do the radio show Tuesday and munch down some free barbecue and along with Seth will pretend like nothing bad happened.  It will be like the game wasn’t even played.  There will be zero tough questions and everyone will say there is a lot to fight for and all that stupid bullshit we’ve been fed for decades.

Scam is good word usage. We could, in a lot of ways, say college football(sports in general) is a scam of the American people. An outlet, a source of entertainment, even a source that releases dopamine... that has been weaponized via the mighty American dollar. We spend billions of dollars a year on sports to the point that pro owners and college administrators are seeing what our tapout limit is. How high can we (they) mark up tickets, soft drinks, beer, merch, parking, etc. to the point of knowingly making it financially uncomfortable to bring a family to a ball game, but nooooot quite to the point of pricing out our family consumer. Ultimately, for what? What does it do for us? Ego boost at the cooler on Monday? Wear our polo with a little pep in our step? And with NIL and inevitable TV sharing, those lost monies will fall in our lap. Is it worth it? And if it is, why?

We're not really recruiting against UNT.
