How exactly is the AAC profile improved? They just lost UH, Cincy, and UCF to the Big 12. Those three are probably amongst the 5 best G5 programs since they started allowing the G5 to play in a BCS bowl game.

Exactly. At some point we've got to latch onto others' momentum and up our game to meet their set standard. Can't keep depending on the conference name to carry us, although it certainly helps in public perception.

You understand that people like you said the same exact thing about UH Cincy and others when they joined the AAC and whatnot?  The key is the AAC provides a vehicle to build your program and now with access to the playoffs that just increases their value.

Never said that once. Those teams have a long history of being good or great. And UCF took advantage  of their location and talent (must be nice), so no, nobody with a brain thought they were watering down the AAC.

Dude you are probably one of the most respected posters on here but we just have to disagree on this. UH was Cougar high just a few years ago and the Big 12 wouldn’t touch them.  Heck man we beat Cincy in the New Orleans bowl not that long ago.

UAB, UTSA, ECU, Temple, SMU, FAU, Memphis, USF and Navy have all had nationally ranked seasons of note. None of them are named UCF, UH, or UC. What can't happen is a CLT losing to William and Mary. That shitbed can't happen and when it inevitably does, it has to be rare. Don't be such a debbie downer. That same group named has us, Tulane, Tulsa and Rice. If which all 4 has a history of success. It's certainly an upgrade.

Yeah, I enjoyed watching UNT, UTSA, Charlotte, UAB, FAU, and Rice make it to BCS bowl games like UH, Cincy, and UCF have done…no wonder SMU is so thrilled to stay in this new conference!! I am sure they wouldn’t leave at the first chance possible, at all.

This is why people think we have a really smart fanbase.

Otherwise, it would appear very spare to those left behind in the AAC…and by reading from our resident Pony fans that seem to enjoy being here, they think it’s extremely spare…so do Tulane, ECU, USF, and Memphis.

This 12-team playoff sounds like the first time North Texas (and every other G5 school) has an actual path to the national championship: Win your conference as the highest ranked G5 team, then win all your playoff games.

Obviously the odds are stacked against us, just like they would be to win the NCAA basketball tournament, but give me "unlikely but possible" any day over "completely bleeping impossible."

Has anyone seen data on the highest ranked G5 team in recent years at the time of year a 12-team playoff field would be set?

Those programs you named are going to an already established conference that will dictate one of those 6 slots, their incoming new TV deal will see to that. You're just a debbie downer. Yes, the AAC will become weaker. It's up to the current and incoming members to keep the AAC up to standard. There's a P6 slot up for grabs and the CFB committe made that clear. The AAC already self proclaimed themselves just that. We must keep it going. I can guarantee you the MWC, AAC and SunBelt will be vying for positioning. Exactly, what is your point?

UAB, UTSA, and FAU have never finished ranked.

ECU has finished top 10 in 1991. Only other time they finished ranked was 1983.

SMU  hasn't finished ranked since 1984

Temple finished ranked once in 1979.

Memphis, USF, and Navy have finished ranked multiple times recently.  USF for the 1st times in 2016 and 2017.  Memphis also for the 1st times in 2014, 2017, and 2019.

Not mentioned Tulsa finished ranked in 2010 and was ranked multiple times in the 2000s
