Copperas Cove Alum, Coach To Be Named To Hall Of Fame

It’s been a busy summer for Brelan Chancellor, member of the class of CCHS 2010. 

Not only has he returned home to Copperas Cove to coach the very team he played for while at CCHS, he is being recognized by his college alma mater, the University of North Texas “Mean Green.” 

In his time at the University of North Texas, Chancellor had 324 rushing yards, 1,711 receiving yards, 3,468 return yards, 5,503 all-purpose yards and a total of 20 touchdowns, before a brief stint with the San Diego Chargers.  

Just this past week, Chancellor was informed that his alma mater is inducting him into their Hall of Fame. 

Chancellor talked about how he’s processing everything since the news broke. 

“It’s the same cloud-9 feeling as when we won the 2014 Heart of Dallas Bowl against UNLV (36-14), just full of emotions,” Chancellor said. “Before that game, we set individual goals and goals as a team to make sure we played our absolute best game ever. It has made me think back to all the people who helped me along the way and getting the stamp of approval.” 

When asked about his fondest memories at the University of North Texas, the Heart of Texas Bowl game came up again. 

“We came into that game and said how we wanted to change the way North Texas is remembered and did exactly that. The group of men we had that year was a special group of men and we all worked as hard as we could to get to that moment, we will all be brothers forever.” added Chancellor.

One of the most electric players ever to wear the green and white.

I remember him taking a kickoff 93 yards to the house as a true freshman against K State in the Fouts Field Finale.

That team was so special and he was such a big part of that team. Loved his emotion and his moxie. Just a great football player.

2013 will remain my all time favorite team we have rolled with. Yeah, we had some tough losses, games we blew at Ohio, Tulane, and at home against UTSA, as well as a very respectable loss at Georgia. But that Rice game at home was electric and had the Stand, which will remain in lore around here. And we just beat up a good Ball State team here, as well as completely destroying UTEP on Homecoming. Wonderful memories for sure.

One of my all time favorites.  As a Temple guy who grudges hard against rival Cove, I’m super proud of him and Byrd’s contributions.  Byrd is back here in Bell County coaching as well.  Tough guys.  Brelan was just a straight gamer.  Great attitude and heart on top of incredible talent.

He was electric.....forgot how fast he was.  One of my all-time favorites as well.   Special teams were special in those days.  They did it all Punt Returns, Kickoff returns and blocked kicks.  That whole group was special.  To bad we did not keep that ST coach.
