Duplicate Jersey Numbers

I realize they are on different sides of the ball, but is it this "normal" to have so many numbers duplicated (this continues through the 20's)? Combine this with the fact that the powers-that-be (Seth?) has decided that there do not need to be names on the backs, I can understand how casual fans could be confused.

It’s normal, but sometimes gets teams in trouble on special teams.

Foolishness because now it is an important thing to have a low digit for some players.   It is actually used in recruiting, come here and you can have number 3 or such nonsense.

Why not use decimals to differentiate?  Or maybe version sequences?

The no names on the back wasn’t a “powers-that-be” thing. Team stuck with the throwback after some supply issues last year. New unis this year have names.

Per NCAA rules only 82 players can be dressed for a game, so there is no need for duplicate numbers other than give players more opportunities to get their favorite number.

I know we have had a penalty before (recently) in a game using duplicate numbers on the field at the same time.  I seem to recall it involved a special teams player when it happened.
