 They were members of UNT's freshman team in 1956 before joining the varsity team the following year.

Better late than never, have advocated for this on many threads in the past. 

NT just seemed to be content allowing SMU to publicize and take any recruiting advantage from signing their first black scholarship player Jerry Levias.  

Who they signed about ten years after NT integrated their sports teams. 

NT did something very right and even courageous at the time.   The local press in general ignored this development and yet SMU signing of Levias was heavily covered.
