After an incredible game Wednesday night, the ladies have a chance to make another statement, returning to Waco to compete in the Baylor Invitational for the first time in a few years. Our ladies are the only team in the field with a winning record at 13-2. Five wins and I have to think we are ranked next week - we were receiving votes when we started 7-0 two years ago. But even a 4-1 weekend assuming a split with Baylor should deserve more than a look, that would put us at 17-3. FAU has already been ranked this year.
Round robin schedule
Championship schedule
Baylor will play at 3 PM Saturday and 9 AM Sunday no matter their seed. So if us and Baylor go 1 and 2 or vice versa, our fourth game would be 5:30 PM Saturday. If us and Baylor both win Saturday afternoon, we'd play at 9 AM Sunday for the championship.
Opponents:
BAYLOR (7-8): 0-7 against ranked opponents. Three of their seven wins are against Hofstra.
CALIFORNIA BAPTIST (7-10): 0-2, outscored 19-0 against ranked opponents (OU and Florida)
SAM HOUSTON STATE (7-7): lost to Texas 8-3 in only game vs. ranked opponent this year. Has two wins against conference foes Tulsa (4-1) and UTSA (5-0)
(Please note my use of upcoming sarcasm)
As a proud member of the statistical majority of incoming freshmen at Texas Tech University (over 80% of incoming freshman at Tech will not finish their 4 year degree)
i can personally attest do not discount the allure of the strip!!
Lubbock is a dry city, so you have to drive out to “The strip” to purchase alcohol. It literally looks like the opening scene from the series Vega$ with all the lights and neon.
all the praise aside, I still have concerns about building next season's roster around him...hopefully he's still in a #2 role next year and we can bring in a big time scoring guard.
this likely deserves it's own thread soon enough, but let's just say everyone who can come back does next season and our two commits make it to campus (all things up in the air):
1. Brennan Lorient, 6'9" Sr
2. Grant Newell, 6'9" Sr
3. Jasper Floyd, 6'3" Sr.
4. Tyran Mason, 6'6" Fr./Soph
5. Alex Cotton, 6'5" Fr./Soph
6. Brock Vice, 6'10" Soph
7. Baron Smith, 6'9" Fr
8. DJ Thomas, 6'8" Fr.
9. Cahmai Crosby, 6'3" Jr
this would leave four more spots. give me this template of player
- Tristan Thompson (D1 transfer)
- Ryan Woolridge (D1 Transfer...and I'm specifically thinking of Rowan Brumbaugh of Tulane here)
- some kinda Eric Tramiel/George Odufuwa hybrid (D1 transfer)
- best available JUCO/freshman
the likelihood of only needing 4 more recruits is pretty low, but this is more or less the blueprint I'd like to see our roster follow next season
