For mid-majors from conferences that aren't well-regarded, the NIT is actually very much a great accomplishment. Because the NIT rewards regular season champions, which is the way it should be. I actually think conferences should get to choose who is going to the postseason. For example, UAB winning CUSA Tournament makes sense, since UNT had the NIT bid and UAB would've gone to the NIT if we had won it all in Frisco. But let's say WKU would've won the postseason tournament. I think CUSA should have the option of placing UNT as their conference champion and put WKU in the NIT. It would make the bottom of the NCAA bracket even better.

 

But it will never happen, of course...
