We went 29 for 58 from the free throw line on this road trip. That’ll get us beat every game from here on out. We’re good but we cannot make up that many points vs quality opponents. Especially when we limit possessions the way we do.

The UTEP post game show said without a doubt, Free throws cost us this game. The commented how this was the only glaring weakness of the UNT program and were surprised how poorly we shoot them.

I was wondering how long it would take before opponents figured out that the game plan against us was to cut our possessions short by sending us to the line.

Hack-a-Bell ?

"Hack-a-Shaq is a basketball defensive strategy used in the National Basketball Association (NBA) that involves committing intentional fouls (originally a clock management strategy) for the purpose of lowering opponents' scoring. The strategy was originally adapted by Dallas Mavericks coach Don Nelson, who directed players to commit personal fouls throughout the game against selected opponents who shot free throws poorly."

Anyone on the team averaging less than 75% on free throws should have to make 100 of them next practice, and every practice, until they manage 75% minimum in games.

Will be interesting to see if we see more of this in the tournament?

We will see more fouling of Bell, Ousmane, and Drez in key situations. I also think you will see teams hard double team Ousmane like LaTech did and try to force him to pass out. Only WKU (with 7’5”) and UAB may not. But we haven’t shot our best from three recently.
