Worst case scenario, Putin holds a press conference announcing the real motif for his war: he wants his Alma mater, Saint Petersburg State University, to have an automatic bid in the NCAA tournament and demands the 12 seed as his presidency started in '12 so he feels strongly about that number. Feeling it's in the best interest of the conference, Judy offers C-USA's automatic bid to SPSU and UNT is stuck playing the NIT. With his Alma mater locked in to play during March Madness, Putin does an about-face and continues the war in Ukraine while cheering on his school in the round of 64.

This may seem crazy but if we're going to throw crazy scenarios out there, why not get a little more extreme?

MTSU had a similar season in 2018, and lost their last regular season game to finish 16-2 in CUSA, then lost their first game in the CUSA tourney to USM.

They got a 3 seed in the NIT and that’s what I would expect us to get. Based on where most bracketologists seem to have us relative to their cut line. We seem to be perceived below most people’s first four out and next four out, and that’s more or less your 1 and 2 seeds in the NIT.

We are West champs.  I read recently that since the East/West split, there is no formal recognition of an overall champ of the regular season.  Someone correct me if I'm remembering wrong.

What if we (West) and MTSU (East champs) both lose our first game in the CUSA tournament and get left out of the NCAA? If CUSA does not formally recognize an overall champ, how does the NIT select their auto-bid?

We have the tiebreak over MTSU since we beat them head to head.  That was my understanding.

The incredible success of this season has been a shock and wonderful surprise.

I will continue to enthusiastically follow and support this team no matter where they wind up playing.

Let's go Brandon!

I know, I'm risking it.

Good call Billy!  I had forgotten about that.
That should be a valid precedent, although I hope we could at least eek out a 2 seed.   Maybe the #1 defense in the nation would sway the committee to let us have that, at least.  That way, we'd be guaranteed at least 2 home games.

You’re correct. There is no regular season champ. Just two divisional winners. But even though CUSA doesn’t recognize a regular season champ, the NIT auto-bid still goes to the team with the best conference record (UNT).

Worst case would be losing to UTSA, UTEP, and then the quarterfinal of the CUSA Tournament. Fall to maybe a 4 seed in the NIT and get blown out at home.
