On Oct. 7, Marshall is scheduled to play football against Alabama-Birmingham, Old Dominion is scheduled to play football against Middle Tennessee and Southern Mississippi is scheduled to play football against Louisiana Tech.

Is scheduled is a loaded term.

Those games are scheduled by Conference USA. Marshall, ODU and Southern Miss are saying not so fast.

Welcome to the latest fallout from OU and Texas declaring allegiance to the SEC

With all the domino-effect realignment of Southeastern Conference expansion, Conference USA was gutted.

Six C-USA members are headed for the American Conference: Charlotte, Florida Atlantic, Alabama-Birmingham, North Texas, Rice and Texas-San Antonio. Three more are headed for the Sun Belt: Marshall, Old Dominion and Southern Miss.

The latter three don’t plan to wait. Marshall, ODU and Southern Miss declared they would join the Sun Belt this summer and play a Sun Belt football schedule in 2022.

Conference USA cited its bylaws and declared the defectors had to give at least 14 months notice. C-USA earlier this month even released a football schedule – with the Thundering Herd, Monarchs and Golden Eagles included.

Now Marshall has filed a lawsuit against C-USA, seeking a quick exit.

It’s all one big mess, and think of the uncertainty.

I wish we could get the hell out too right now. That's be great to play in the AAC if even for one season with Houston, Cincy, etc., especially in basketball.

It would be better if CUSA just released all the teams leaving.  that way they can schedule the rest of the teams.  But I sure Judy will screw it up.  Was Judy running CUSA before we joined?    What is her background, garden center mgr at Lowes?

No, she was given the job when the previous commissioner retired.  I'm not sure what qualifications she had, but all we heard about was how she was the first female to be a commissioner of a D1 conference, or whatever they wanted to call it.  I remember there were multiple posters on this board that were specifically asking what her qualifications were at the time.

Every single fan base in CUSA is convinced she was a bad commissioner and believes their school wanted rid of her.

Yet there seems to have never been a time when 8 schools said fire her. A 7-7 vote would have denied a contract extension yet that never seems to have happened either.

Why did this comment get downvotes?  Rudy was just stating facts as he knows them.  Downvoting Rudy’s comment is not a downvote for Judy.  🤷🏽‍♂️🤣

The path to an extension just got harder, Littrell. No layups in Southern Piss and ODU to help pad the resume anymore. Just what this program needed.

Layups?

He’s 1-2 vs USM the last 3 games and ODU beat him the last time they played.

There are no FBS lay ups for Littrell. The only layups for him have been FCS teams. Take those games off his resume then look at his record. 😳

You would think but many on this board believe this team could/should win 10+ games next year with the current schedule. This makes those ambitions even harder when you can't have games against the bottom of the barrel of the conference.

I’m one that thinks they SHOULD. If we had a better coach we COULD.

I think people are afraid that he could be mediocre and still win 7-8 games next season with the weak schedule and end us staying in place.
