Good hell! Unless Aune shows significant improvement, I am extremely pessimistic about our chances to improve. If there's no one in the room that can beat him out, then heaven help us.

I'm just rolling with the idea that a full season under Ruder's belt is gonna be a huge positive difference.

I have zero supporting evidence or insight.  Just wild, unfiltered fanatical optimism.

Kid is raw from a tiny school in OK. He isn’t the second coming of Fine. Not knocking him, just the truth.

Would've been nice to have had a QB coach for a kid like this, but thankfully he still has 4 years to play. Just a very raw talent.

I think the better bets for 2022 are the guys who've been on the field (and I say this as a guy who is pretty high on Drummond).

Aune, Ruder, Earle, Head have all played to some extent, so I'd give them a leg up if I were just guessing today. Hell, we could still get another QB before next season. New transfers entering the portal every day, and you can bet there will be a fresh exodus after the Spring Games.

I am also in the camp that believes we will see a completely different Ryder this year.

Back to Drummond, I am not down on him at all, but I think expecting him to mirror Fine is asking way too much and isn’t fair. Their only share characteristic is that they come from a small OK school under the same head coach. Fine had the “It” factor and was a once in a generation talent. I don’t think it is fair to Drummond to expect the same.

With the experience we have at QB Co how could he not improve his mechanics

No, I'm not saying Drummond is the second coming of Mason.  He has good size and he's been in the system.  I would like to know what kind of potential he has going into the season.  Even as the No. 1 backup to whoever starts at QB.  He needs some reps and playing time if he's at the level yet.

I have no idea how he has progressed since he arrived on campus.  Any answer on my part would be pure speculation.
