Honest tactical question here…
To your point, even if you are intend to run a hurry-up offense, there are times when it makes sense to SLOW TF DOWN. Too many times our D would finally get off the field, either by a punt or score, then the offense would start at the 22 and run 3 plays that took only 0:50 seconds off the clock. This might consist of a caught pass and a running play, after which we would snap the ball with 20+ seconds on the play clock. Add in one incomplete pass and your 3-and-out not only rested the D for less than 5 minutes (3 minute commercial and 2 minutes of execution), but it took less than a minute off the clock, lengthening the game. This happened numerous times. An air-raid offense should only have the rare 3-and-out from their own 20. We usually had at least 2 per game. Often on the opening drive. -

A home softball game probably averages 500 fans, more for bigger teams. Similar for soccer. I think baseball would attract more, and the AAC is a quality league. Say 1000 attend. That's 1000 more per contest than attend golf, swimming, or track events. Those fans and alums are potential donors, and potential sponsors for advertising, or other sports attendance. Anything to get an alum back on campus supporting the school is a positive. The non-rev sports? Why do we even fund them or need them? Title IX? Check the sports offerings at schools with baseball and Title IX is not a consideration. I say re-allocate resources to revenue sports.- 1

If it worked at UIW why not here?
UIW....no one cares! None of this made him the most qualified candidate to be the head coach at UNT, but here we are. We've regressed significantly under his leadership. He has had no role in developing Rogers or Morris. They were already proven and developed by others. It's not like he discovered a QB no one ever heard of. And for all his ability to identify QB talent, he picked the wrong one for the first two games last year. He is incredibly lucky that Morris ended up here this year. If he's not our QB this season, we'd probably be 1-10 instead of 5-6. Fortunately SMU left the conference and we got to play both Tulsa and Temple twice these last two seasons. He's 0-2 against Vito's "premier rival" and now has us sitting at #97. We took a risk with this hire and it's blown up in our face.- 1
