Even if we wanted to fire Seth, what coach would we hire.  Most of the best candidates have taken other jobs.  We may be stuck with Seth until the next coaching hire cycle.

How would you know that? Simple answer is there are hundreds of coaches that would like this job and without doubt many better qualified than Seth.

I don't buy this argument at all. There are hundreds of coordinators, up and coming coaches, out of work head coaches, etc. that would be chomping at the bit to take this job the second it opens up. There would be a line out the door of applicants. The "it's too late to hire a good coach" argument is pure garbage

I totally agree. Plus, with what UNT pays, there are a number of successful coaches we could poach from the MAC, Sun Belt, and C-USA. Remember, Wren poached McCasland away from Arkansas State and that has worked out wonderfully.

Ha.  There is some irony in your question and subsequent retort.

Saying there are 100’s of coaches available is the thinking that ended up leaving us with Todd Dodge…

There are probably 5-10 coaches each cycle that “fit” the needs of a program like UNT. We aren’t after the retreads of the completely untested, but instead those that have proven something and now are looking to land somewhere to springboard to a midlevel or higher P5 job.

How many of those 5-10 names are still available and how have their agent responded when approached?

If there is a solid better option, you make the move now. If not you are just as likely to luck into a disaster hire as an improvement just picking from the general available “field” of talent available.

The mistake was made by not lining up a replacement 6 weeks ago and now we are stuck in no man’s land.

Apparently If the narrative that Wren will never fire someone mid season like most others do is true then we will always be in this predicament each year. So the blame of being in this position falls squarely on Wren and should be a major talking point that Wren effed up.
