How does this not bite young Travis in the butt come NFL draft time?

Jackson State has had one player drafted the past 20 years. The last big-time NFL player it produced was Jimmy Smith, a second round pick of Dallas in 1992 who became the best wide receiver in Jaguars history (and perhaps forever given how my local team drafts these days).

Yes, the FCS does produce some draft picks each year but he won't be honing his skills against the best.

If you are good, the NFL will find you.  You mentioned Jimmy Smith.  Here are some others.

OL Larry Allen: Sonoma State

RB Walter Payton: Jackson State

WR Jerry Rice: MS Valley St.

QB Tony Romo: Eastern IL.

RB Craig James: smu

But every year you hear so many people complain about the quality of competition that G5 players play against. The competition level he will be playing against is even much lower

Come on, man.  If this guy committed to UNT, we'd all say he made the best decision of his life.

We'd all have more concerns if Julia Roberts married Lyle Lovett than if she married us.

I think a lad who could've signed at Alabama probably hurt his prospects a bit by dropping down to FCS.

But he can always transfer if life with Deion doesn't pan out.

So this young man wants to be the next Sanders?  Guess he doesn't want to tackle.

If not tackling helps you shut down half the back field and be one of the greatest backfield players ever, then okay 😉

Also, there may be more to this than meets the eye.

I'm all for this, would love to see HBCU's continue to get more talent and become destinations.

Deion promised a culture shift, and he's delivering. He also knows how to use NIL to his advantage. The SWAC championship was almost 50k because of his constant promoting.

It’s all about publicity for Deion.

BTW, you can’t call him just “Deion” anymore.  It has to be “Coach Sanders” or he will get mad…

you call a man what he wants to be called... it's not that big of a deal... People gave him crap for it but the guy interviewing him was in wrong.

So I wonder what is the overlap between people who downvote and 🙄 at suggestions that our staff make phone calls trying to one or two “out of our league” big fish and the people 🙄 at this news coming out of Jackson State.  Maybe we should figure out what they are doing and see if it something we can emulate (if it is ethical).

Get Mattress Mac on board again and flip a couple of these kids playing in this weekend’s state title games.

Maybe we can get him to stop making million dollar bets on the Astros and make million dollar bets on these kids instead
