How in the world, do you come up with that.

But as far as the budget items that matter:  coaches and staff salaries and recruiting budgets, you will find the differences are not that significant.

Just trying to understand if you were comparing what we have now to what other UNT coaches had or other G5's?

And year after year you continually highlight a coach that left 40+ years ago instead of having recent successes to highlight. We can agree to disagree - it is possible to bleed Mean Green, and still want a different outcome than we are getting.. This "on the cusp" if freaking old. More money than ever has been put into this program and the last 3 years we are 14-20, and people want to keep taking about "how close we are". I guess if we say it enough it will eventually happen, and then people will say "I told you so".  We have a board that love to see other programs fail and have problems, but think the same levels of success are OK for us.

Your UNT experience is obviously different than mine. We are still allowed that difference, though, right?

🤔To the best of my recollection, GMG is still an opinion forum. My above opinion “epistle” was more about alums who seem to find & accentuate the dark side of just about every freakin’ thing about the UNT athletic program.  Never an upside with that hardy handful.  It seems those clouds get darker the closer to success we have, too.  Just read  the “will we sellout this bowl or not”  comments.  Much to be said about even those. A shrink could have a hay day on GMG.

Then read all the bonafide experts comments about the only UNT coach in most their lives who at Year 6 is the only one they’ve seen at or anywhere near .500.  Hell! Some of them still want to name venues (or whatever) after one who left UNT (involuntarily) & left way under .500. Any normal person reading GMG could become abnormal after reading some of the comments on this board. Hell! Even I used to be normal. It affects the human mind what some of the Progressives-influenced crap that has now translated over to college athletics.  Where does anyone think all this new NCAA &  “potential college athletics ender” with ideas like NIL & maybe even portal transferring come?  Use your Imaginations & then merely look at what used to be other sacred institutions in this country & what groups are shittin’ all over those because they cannot accept who & what made America a cut above?  Still some love to hate but at the same time—LOOK AT WHO AIN’T LEAVIN’ & LOOK WHOSE COMIN’ TO LIVE A LIFE OF U.S. TAXPAYERS ‘PAID FOR’—EASE?  ••• Do you want to become a millionaire?  Well, you now know what to do to make that happen & hard work has not a damn thing to do with it.

🤬Sorry,  I’m pissed at what is happening to college athletics because of stinkin’ thinkin’, total shortsightedness & of course always—money & greed.  UT-Austin can no longer do it the old way—but now they may have to pay each of their offensive linemen $50K a piece to be able to stay out of the basement of their soon-to-be SEC membership.

I assure all that this book the new NCAA is writing will not have a happy ending for all who still give a damn about amateur athletics.  It’s now all about the Benjamin$.

The NCAA bridge is now officially out. Navigate with fear & caution.

From Knight Commission 2020 financial database:  A few comparisons In millions

Total Athletic Expenses:

UNT 39.9

UTSA 30.0

UAB  35.7

Coaches Salaries

UNT 7.68

UTSA  6.48

UAB  7.82

Facilities & Equipment

UNT 11.1

UTSA  3.7

UAB  4.0

Recruiting

UNT  .370

UTSA  .350

UAB  .510

This limited comparison supports that there are not significant differences in coaches salaries or recruiting budgets.  Furthermore, the reason that NT has a higher budget than most CUSA members is the amortization of the cost of Apogee.

Valid points. Agree about Apogee. Would have been nice if Denton had supported a new stadium for UNT the was Birmingham did. It also shows, that at least in the last thee seasons, UAB and UTSA have got a lot more return on their investments than we have.
