We are further removed from the STATE name (33 years) than the actual time we were called it (23 years).

Not exactly correct.  We were North Texas State (in different iterations) for 88 years.

Not making excuses, but these are our OOC losses since our last win over Army in Oxford back in 2011. We took Army to 2 OT in 2018 at West Point, blew an 11 point lead with the ball and 2:38 left on the clock at home vs. Cincy in 2017 and lost 31-25 at bowl bound Minnesota this year. Not exactly a murders’ row slate but damn challenging.

In all seriousness we had many years of ass-kicking OOC schedules but fortunately we now buy an FCS win. Otherwise we wouldn’t be playing you! We have gotten our asses handed to us in OOC games of late.

The win in our FCS game has me has saved us in a couple of seasons. The big surprise in terms of needing the FCS win this season was UNC. The Heels were in the Top 10 in the preseason poll. They needed the win over Wofford to get to 6-6.
