This checked all of my boxes:

  • Closeby
  • Winnable
  • Makeable (I have to work on the 23rd but I have a better chance of getting off a few hours for a 4:30 p.m. start than taking off a whole day for an 11 a.m. game)

While I'm unsure how much longer I want Littrell to be coaching here, I'd much rather see this team, after putting in all the hard work to get here after a 1-6 start, finish it off with a bowl win in front of a loud, green stadium.

Yep, already got cleared to get off at noon, barring some asshole doing something stupid, which is always a possibility.

Someone tell their graphic designer that Austin is not Frisco.

Unless the graphic designer is connecting "Frisco" with "San Francisco" and San Francisco with Austin...

Well played, graphic designer!

Agreed. If they wanted to put tall buildings to make it look more big city, they should have at least put downtown Dallas as the back drop.

Love the location, obviously. Is this Bowl even sponsored?

I heard they actually just made it up. So no.

UNT Football: North Texas accepts bid to inaugural Frisco Football Classic

DENTON, Texas – North Texas football has accepted an invitation to play in the inaugural Frisco Football Classic in Frisco, Texas, and will face Miami (Ohio) from the Mid-American Conference. The game will be played on December 23 at 2:30 pm CT at Toyota Stadium. It will be broadcast by ESPN.

“This is a great reward for our players and all they accomplished this season,” head coach Seth Littrell said. “We are excited for this chance nearby in Frisco to compete in front of our fans again, especially against a talented Miami team. We look forward to getting to work.”

UNT won its last five regular season games to finish 6-6 and secure bowl eligibility for the fifth time in six seasons under Littrell. It will be UNT’s 13th bowl appearance all-time. The Mean Green has a 3-9 record in postseason bowl games.

“We are honored to be selected to play in the Frisco Football Classic,” Vice President of Intercollegiate Athletics and Director of Athletics Wren Baker said. “This is a tremendous opportunity for our fans to show the country what makes the Mean Green Family special with a big turnout for a game in our backyard, and a chance for our program to continue building on its strong finish to the season.”

Tickets for the game will be on sale soon. Stay tuned to MeanGreenSports.com/BowlCentral for the latest information.

“We are thrilled to announce the inaugural Frisco Football Classic Bowl between Miami (Ohio) and North Texas, accomplished programs from the Mid-American Conference and Conference USA, respectively,” Frisco Football Classic executive director Sean Johnson said. “We are excited to welcome the teams and their enthusiastic fan bases to Frisco, Texas.”

The Mean Green are playing in their fifth bowl all-time in the state of Texas after trips to the 1946 Optimist Bowl (Houston), 1959 Sun Bowl (El Paso) and visits to the Heart of Dallas Bowl in 2014 and 2016.

Miami (Ohio) posted a 6-6 record in 2021, including a 5-3 mark in MAC play. The two programs have never met. UNT is 3-5 all-time against MAC opponents with the most recent matchup a 34-27 win over Ball State at Apogee Stadium in 2013.

Isn't that why the job exists in the first place?

Yes, but sometimes it's just nice to be asshole free.  Like, just take the day off.  The world will still be there for them to fv<k it up tomorrow...and I'll be off.

Is this even a Bowl?  41 other games are called Bowl, this one is a football classic. Hard to be a classic when it’s never happened before. Sorry for the negativity. Happy to have another game but this just feels cheap.
Does anyone know what the payout is?  Without a sponsor, I bet it’s not much.

After the conference gets their cut, it definitely ain't about the payout. Let's just enjoy the experience and win!

I think the sarcastic guy at the bowl committee said, “Let me see if I got this right.  We’re going to add in yet another bowl game just a couple days before we have to announce the participants?  And we’re just going to stick it in a stadium that’s hosting another bowl game just a few days before?  Classic.”

Who is sponsoring this bowl game? Ryan? If so, is he going to keep it, since it's called a classic?

If it is Ryan, I hope the bowl moves to Apogee next season and they change the name to the Ryan Denton Bowl or something like that.

Maybe this is where his C-USA sponsorship money will be going since we're moving to the American.

This is a winnable game. Looking at their schedule, they only won one away game. This is essentially an away game for them and a home game for us.

They lost 5 games by a total of 22 points, that averages to 4.4 points a game. Other than a beat down by Cincinnati in their first game of the year they lost some close games.

BUT I BELIEVE IN THE MEAN GREEN!!

GO MEAN GREEN!!!
WIN GAMES!!!!!!!

Nah, too many people would get it mixed up and call it the “Denton Ryan Bowl”
