They fired arguably the most consistent coach in CUSA for this guy?

No doubt he's a great coordinator but not sure why this was even needed in the first place.

I went to the La Tech game and hung out at the Dawg House. I met the owner and some locals. It seems none of them were really happy with Skip. Not that they didn’t like him, but seemed to expect he was not long for Ruston. I think it was just time in both sides to move on. No love, but no hate either.

How grown up and civilized.

People keep saying this. Then why is LaTech paying the 3M buyout? Because Skip quit? That's not how that works.

People are saying it because the language in the press releases leaves some wiggle room for it.

[Wood] Skip and I talked and agreed it was time for a change for both parties...
[Holtz]..and I simply think it is time for someone else to have the chance to lead this special group of young men.

My guess is LaTach wanted him out, started the convo, and Skip was ready and willing for the change.

Yep.   "Gimme my money, and I'll leave without a fuss."

I don't know that they "fired" Skip.

They did.  I can't find it now, but there is an interview out there where he states he didn't want to leave La Tech.

Sure. I understand that. But he was fired. Ignorantly.

I like Cumbie a lot, but replacing Skip won’t be nearly as easy as La Tech thinks…but then again, CUSA is about to be so watered down, it may not look too bad. And make no mistake about it, CUSA has managed to somehow get worse.
