But if he doesn’t get fired I think we should understand the optics of a G5 school firing a coach coming off a bowl win, six in a row, and 7 wins. I just can’t see it. 
That being said, I can’t see the six game winning streak happening in the first place so the point is likely moot. 

Agreed. If he wins out he deserves a chance, but we all know that won't happen

You make some good points but for me why would we renew a coach that in 6 years never won his conference and never won a bowl game?  How does that resume bode for the move to the American?  Will bringingvSeth back sell more tickets and inspire more donors?  Will recruiting improve?  These are the questions that have timo be asked if you are Wren.

Simple: years 7 and 8 of the contract he wins the conference and bowl games.  That's why you would renew it.

I hear NutsaCK is going all out and bringing their band, provided the shift manager at KFC lets them have the day off, even though that means they'll have to work a double on Sunday.

 

They were going to bring their cannon, but wood being so expensive, they can't risk it making the trip up I-35.

Doesn't it take -both- sides caring to create a rivalry?

I don't see utsa as anything other than an accidental conference neighbor.

Our knack for playing spoiler to one another has sort of naturally created a rivalry. We are the SMU in this particular relationship.

I think so. We're having this conversation in a click bait thread that has loose implications that an undefeated utsa team has the audacity to talk trash about the upcoming matchup with 5-6 North Texas.

      This world does not exist anymore. It used to, but not in the portal and NIL age of college football. If players cared about coaching staff stability they would not be transferring at the rate they are. If this thinking permeates our AD, then they need to look for a new line of work because that ship sailed. Seriously, how many 17-18 years olds sit down and review the contracts of the coaches to decide which offer to take? High school recruiting should be de-emphasized. It can't go away completely, but building a program through the high school ranks over multiple years no longer works. When recruiting high school players, I think the only "stability" play is academic stability. There are a lot of players that have the skill and ability to play D1 football, but won't make it to the next level. Hopefully they are smart enough to realize that. Sell them (and their parents!) on playing a sport they love and getting a solid education and degree while they do. That's why it's important to continue to improve the academic status of UNT. We're not going to be a Stanford, but improving 4-year graduation rates and tighter admission standards will help.

      AAC Trend - Year 2 of 5 Firings

      At this point in the football cycle, if you fire a coach then you throw away all the recruiting work being done for the following seasons. The portal opens up in just a few days, and most AAC schools build their next years roster in the transfer portal. How hard is it going to be for these programs to build rosters for next season if they dont have a head coach going into the transfer window?
