Conference USA: Last night, Chris Vannini tweeted that C-USA is in negotiations to add New Mexico State, Liberty, and UConn (as a football only member). Pete Thamel has followed up that report by adding that UConn officials have spoken to C-USA about joining the league, but says there have been no negotiations and no decision is imminent. Thamel says a lot is riding on if Marshall stays in the league or heads for the Sun Belt. If Marshall stays, Liberty's addition to the league is "likely" with New Mexico State as the eighth team.

CUSA down to 5 programs. It appears [ note "appears"] they will invite NMSU as an all sports member and try to get UCONN, UMASS, and Liberty as "Football Only " members. Rumor has it [note "rumor"] that the Sun Belt may drop non football programs UTA and UALR, and that they may[note "may"] move to CUSA for basketball to offset any "Football Only" members. Sam Houston wants to move up but students voted down a $3.00 per hour athletic fee increase so this might influence their decision. I have added disclaimers to this post because based upon my recent experiences nearly all new outlets releasing "information" on recent conference realignments, especially concerning the AAC, have been inaccurate with the exceptions of the Big 12 and SBC.

And one of the best programs(football for sure), Louisiana Tech, just wandering in the wilderness.  Surely some conference will pick them up.

It's going to depend on if the conference officials and schools have ever dealt with the La Tech administration.

The WAC survived, dropping football as a sponsored sport in 2012 and picking it back up nine years later. CUSA can survive too if it is willing to do anything to stick around.

We all need to hope La Tech gets left behind. They are a thorn that needs to die on the vine.
