In its early days, Oral Roberts University was considered a wacky place, due to its founder's beliefs and stronghold on the entire enterprise. Now that the Roberts family is no longer involved, no one gives them much thought.

I thought that perhaps Liberty would go the same route. The Falwell family is at least officially out of the picture and they now have the opportunity to reinvent themselves.

But things like this keep happening:

Judy's goal is to be the true Conference of the USA.  Stretch it from New Mexico to Connecticut and beyond.

Why stop there? Puerto Rico has 3 schools with athletics in NCAA DII as does Alaska. Make it a true Conference USA, Judy.

CUSA could add Idaho, too - get them to move back up - and expand even farther west!

Before we try to shut the lid on CUSA's coffin, not that long ago the Sun belt was down to 5 FB teams. I do agree CUSA needs a change in leadership, but hopefully they are able to right the ship.

Liberty U is going somewhere...its got TOO much money to throw around. So why not CUSA??

They are smart enough not to but a ticket on the Titanic. I look for them to remain independent.

UNT is very lucky to not be in LA Tech's place.  If the AAC had stopped at 12, I don't think we would have made the cut.

LA Tech should be trying to cut a deal with the SBC.  WKY and MTSU with the MAC.  With UTEP as the odd man out.   I can't see the media rights to the new CUSA being worth it to keep the conference going.

MAC is sniffing around about taking the kill shot

Five you can work your way back from. Three would be really hard.

Genuinely curious what will happen with UTEP. Out on an island with the only conference in the area not wanting them. Going independent seems to be staring them in the face.

Based on comments made by those involved in these transactions, UNT and Rice were the first two in.  UTSA and UTEP were fighting for the last spot.

You need 8 full FBS members to stay an FBS conference, but you only need 7 members who play D1 mens and womens basketball to be an all sports conference.

In that scenario the remaining FBS football schools would have to become FBS independents, but CUSA would continue to exist to receive those exit fees. The conference would invite FCS schools who plan to transition to FBS, and once thy have they can re-certify as an FBS conference.

Finding 4 more teams willing to that won't be easy, but the alternative is giving up all those fees.  If they need to I bet the remaining teams would be willing to share them to help some FCS teams make the transition
