Is Missouri State in a position where it could leave the MVC for Conference USA?

Amid the conference realignment shift that has rocked college athletics in recent months, Missouri State has finally been mentioned as a school that could be interested in moving.

Matt Brown, the publisher of a college athletics newsletter called "Extra Points," reported Monday evening that Missouri State could be in the mix to move to Conference USA.

Brown has been a reliable source in recent conference realignment news. He was the first to report that Belmont is on its way to the Missouri Valley Conference.

If ESPN tells MAC to take WKU and MTSU it will pretty much be over.

Didn't La Tech give an ESPN bowl the middle finger a few years back when the opponent was going to be ULM or ULL?  Precisely why ESPN is taking CUSA apart after CUSA spurned ESPN on a TV deal a decade ago.  The mouse never forgets.

Just curious. Do either WKU or MTSU bring any value to the MAC? And yes, La. Tech passed on the Independence Bowl about 11 years ago to avoid playing ULM.The had a real good team that year but stayed home instead. Their refusal to play either ULM or ULL just bit them in the butt as the SBC decided 2 programs in Louisiana was enough and will not be adding La. Tech.

Not if CUSA collapses like a cheap lawn chair.

Its not going too. Even if only three schools are left, given all the exit fees and lack of places they can go the history of the collapse and ressurection of the WAC is instructive here.  They will call up FCS or maybe even non-football schools, and just keep going as a conference, whether it is with or without football included. Apparently everyone who announces they will leave has lost their voting rights, wherefore there will never be a 3/4 majority to disband. In combo with the exit fees the basketball NCAA automatic berth is worth keeping the conference alive by itself. Still, even in the case that c-USA were to give up on football.... she gets her salary.

It will be decided by its  worth to media rights holders. " If the collection of teams in the newly formed C-USA does not draw enough interest from networks, it could go away completely." From a logistic point she can't connect FIU and UTEP.

After reading some AAC history, it seems the old version of that conference (with UH, Cincy & CenFla) got such a good TV deal with ESPN because of AAC Commissioner Aresco & his apparent past connection to some executives in that sports network.

None of the new AAC additions are hardly a Notre Dame (but neither was Cincy’ the night the Mean Green beat them in a New Orleans Bowl game);  but Commissioner Aresco has doubled the AAC’s presence in Dallas-Fort Worth, he’s added greater San Antonio & greater Miami plus retained Houston.  So work your magic (again), Mr. Commissioner. We’re all pulling for ya’! 👍

Why oh why are Sunbelt and CUSA thinking of adding FCS teams? we already have too many FBS teams, we need to be downsizing, not the other way! Trim the fat before bringing more to the table.

AAC taking 6 CUSA schools and Sun Belt adding 3 made it a necessity for the schools left.

Right, but it just feels like you are dumpster diving to justify existing. CUSA failed and needs to die

C-USA was the original "P6" conference back in the day.
And even after the AAC's formation, Bannowsky set the conference up for success...  Then, Judy'd.

For her final imbicilic act, Judy decided to stare-down ESPN and leave the table to find media money elsewhere.   She found only scraps anyway, and lost.   Bad.   As did All C-USA schools not named NC-Charlotte, FAU, UAB, Rice, NT, & UTSA.

WKU & MT will land somewhere.   UTEP had 20+ years in C-USA to prove they want to be serious in Athletics... and never did.   FIU is now out on a complete island because they made bad hire after bad hire & can't seem to find money despite being a GIGANTIC school (enrollment at almost 60,000 students!!!).

Man, I HATE this for LATech.   They do just about everything right given their resources.  Yet they're about be left without a home.   Heck, I think their b-ball is about to win C-USA this year!  <ducks out the door dodging y'all's sharp objects>
