It appears that the SBC will put the final nail in CUSA's coffin this coming week with the addition's of ODU and Marshall in addition to So. Miss.  This leaves CUSA with WK, MTSU, FIU, La. Tech, and UTEP. It must be humbling to La. Tech that after decades of snubbing ULM and ULL that CUSA is trying to talk  McNeece State into moving up along with Sam Houston. They also are trying to lure Liberty, which if the Flames are smart will look at CUSA as one does a vampire, make the sigh of a cross, and drive a stake into its heart. Another problem, and CUSA has a boatload, is what to do with UTEP, who is about 900 miles from its closest conference member, La. Tech. They could either dump the Miners, dropping CUSA down to 4 existing members, or add NMSU, which gives UTEP a travel partner and a 6 th conference member but compounds the geography problem. I have also read that they are trying to add U. Conn for football only and U. Mass. Any way they turn its a mess. Probably what may happen is that UTEP goes independent in football and puts their Olympic sports in the WAC, taking the same route as NMSU. La. Tech could also go independent in football and affiliate their Olympic sports in a conference to be named later, while FIU should probably drop down. Hopefully W.K. and MTSU will find a home in the MAC, but that is a long shot . It's a shame , but as Clint Eastwood said said as he killed " Little Bill" in the movie THE UNFORGIVEN, " deserves got nothing to do with it."

Instead of trying to arrange travel partners for UTEP I think they should drop them. It would be crazy ironic for La Tech that never wanted to associate with La, and La M, to have to accept McMess State! Crap!

I don't see that happening.  UConn already has a tv contract for $100k per home game that guarantees all their home games will be on tv.  They have full control of that contract and dont have to worry what conference mates want to do.  Plus they can schedule more regional games than CUSA would provide

BTW how desperate is CUSA that they are considering one of the worst football teams in college football history?

CUSA just needs to close it's doors and go away.  The remaining teams will just have to go Independent for a while.  Someone smart will surely pick up La Tech, Western Kentucky, and UTEP.

We should be rooting for CUSA to fold. If they fold, then there’s no organization for us to have to pay to get out in 2023. Saves us a good chunk of money if they fold.

Not sure it works that way.  Especially considering it should still be a fully functioning league at the time we leave.  If it folds the week after we leave, that doesn't negate our exit fee.

Characterizing it as fully functioning right now is generous.

This guy makes a lot of good points about why CUSA didn't do well. It is from 2020, but still relevant. Most of what he is talking about could be traced back to one person.... the commish.

I think both UTEP and LA. Tech will go independent because they have no other choices. I don't know what is going on at FIU but I read that Marshall was basically told to either make a decision or their spot in the SBC was going to MTSU. Both the Blue Raiders and Hilltoppers are probably collateral damage at this point unless the MAC is interested.

The SBC is happy to snub WKU and MTSU for leaving the SBC for CUSA with such confidence.  They basically have to go to the MAC.

True, but to date it appears the MAC has shown no interest in expansion.
